I need your help

My guess is 35 Whelen or 338-06. Easiest way to find out is to use micrometer on the bullet and weigh it, then throw everything else away. Please let us know the results as we are all as curious as cats!
:S Please:

It could be the great 375 Whelen with the discontinued 225gr Hornady single shot pistol bullet or 270gr Hornady interlock, regardless, and as said, i'd pull em down, chunk the powder on your Wifes vegetable or flower garden and use the brass and bullets.

.375 Whelen (.375-06) … curiosity immediately drew me into that cool concept & BAMM! I’m no seasoned Ammo Guy, ‘I Need Your Help’ may have a serious contender here & maybe my 1st rebore project  !?

One of my man projects to do is a 375Wheln, allthough I will call it 38Whelen (1-38whelen was the first wildcst Townsend Whelen made (I have been told, can be wrong) and 2-with some magic I can alter the headstamp of 35Whelen cases..).

This is my 375 Whelen Ackley Improved looks quite close to your picture

Quality Cartridge actually makes properly head stamped brass. Crazy thing I’ve found with mine is that fireforming either from ‘06 or 35W brass, I get right around 1” groups using the cheapest 375 Speers(hot cores). I can’t say this is common place or not, I’ve never shot a fire form load on paper until this rifle and the only reason I did with it was while forming brass I stacked 3 on a steel plate very neatly and curiosity got the better of me and I stapled a target up.

The 375 Whelen is a real interesting round. Easy to make/load and very efficient. The alternative is the 375 Skovill but slightly harder to form the brass. Frankly I think if a person wanted a little more powder capacity (like the Skovill) necking up the 9.3X62 makes more sense. Again a very efficient combustion chamber and giving near 375 H&H power. But would it be worth it? As it is the 9.3X62 with modern powders and load data gives near 375 H&H power. As a long time handloader and wildcat shooter that is part of the fun. What ever works for you, go for it and enjoy.

Interesting. I've never owned an AI, but my father in laws 6mm Remington AI shoots well too when fireforming the AI case. It's his pronghorn rifle.

I pulled a bullet today. Mic'd at .34, approx. 200 grains. Powder is some type of ball, approximately. 46 grains. Seems ti line up with 35 Whelen. Lmk what you guys think, cheers.

The powder isn't ball. Looks like H4831SC?

Man, good thing you didn't try to fire them in your 30-06. I believe it's a 35 Whelen.

Not sure about powder, I don't reload so that's not my area of expertise. That was a guess but if anyone knows I'd be interested to find out what kind it is. I know its hard to tell from a pic
It's a cylindrical powder and looks like H4831SC (short cut) to me, but I may be wrong?

Lucky for you! LOL
Off topic, but a couple of years ago, my father in law, myself and a few others were shooting some clays. He was shooting his older 2 3/4" chambered 870 Wingmaster. I wasn't paying attention as to what shells he was using, but he was having a hell of a time extracting the fired cases from the chamber. Finally, I looked at the box and he was shooting 3" high brass shells! They worked, but am not sure how? LOL

3 inch shells will chamber and fire in a 2 3/4 just like a 3 1/2 will in a 3 inch gun. It's not recommended as the forcing cone isn't long enough for the crimp to open all the way possibly creating unsafe pressure.

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
