Hi All,

I'm trying to find some info on a rifle that was my dad's. I've owned it for many years but have never shot it and admittedly have no use for, I would like to sell it to someone who will actually appreciate it.

I'm looking for a fair estimate on the value, It's an Interarms Whitworth 375 H&H with a 24" barrel, marked Alexandria Virginia/Manchester England on the left side of the receiver. It has a nice walnut stock and a 3 leaf front sight. It's in excellent condition. The S/N is B271XXX.

I have one as well (pictured below) and I think it is a great rifle, especially as an affordable big game rifle. Mine has a serial number B279xxx, which would place it reasonably soon after yours. If you look on the right side of the receiver, just forward of the bolt handle, you should see a four digit code stamped in the metal. The first two digits are the month and the next two digits are the year of manufacture. For example, mine is stamped 0785 (July 1985). Sometimes the stock covers up a portion of this code, so you may need to remove the barreled action from the stock in order to see it clearly. Here is some info that I grabbed from a related post from a few years back on this forum, which should give you some helpful info:

"The actions and barrels were made by Zastava in the former Yugoslavia. The Whitworth rifles were assembled in England, while other Mark X rifles were mostly assembled in Yugo but Isuspect some were also assembled in England, but its hard to definitively state or prove this.
Very early Whitworth Express rifles will show a stamping of the Interarms castle on the barrel just ahead of the receiver and will say as example .375 H&H Calibre instead of caliber. They will also be stamped Whitworth on the barrel and the top of the left side rail. Believe they were first introduced in 1974."

Similar to what @eyedok said, I usually see them change hands in the $750-1,000 USD range; although I've seen "asking prices" as high as $1,500 for really nice specimens (that also included a nice scope). If you decide to sell it, this is a really good place to do so. BTW, just curious where you are located and what other type of firearm or hunting experience do you have? Cheers.

SN is close to mine at 270,4**, made in 1983. Interarms Mark X's and Whitworths always seem to shoot very well.
My avatar rifle is my .375 Whitwoth from 1990 in Botswana.

Thank you all for the info. I certainly wouldn’t mind listing it here, maybe ill look into it as long as it’s not frowned upon for new members.

I do a lot of shooting and hunting of North America game, mainly bird hunting. My Dad had always wanted to do a Safari hunt but it’s a tad expensive! Unfortunately there’s not really anything that I go after that requires such a cartridge.

You might consider buying a box of ammo, take a few practice shots then take it deer hunting at least once for the experience.

I second the advice from @Wheels . If you get a box or two of the lighter stuff (235-270 grain bullets) and shoot a few, you just might like it. So far I've only shot Speer 235 Hot Cor's out of mine at the range, and it's no worse than my 270's or 30-06's.

Oh, I definitely like the rifle, I kind of just need to cull the herd of rifles a little bit. Maybe I’ll shoot it at least once before I list it. I think i have a box of ammo lying around and some spare pumpkins that might be fun to give it a try on.

Where are you located?
I’m in Southern California.

Welcome to the forum.
Definitely shoot the rifle a few times before you make the decision to sell

i had almost the exact same gun. very nice. i sold mine three years ago for $1200

Ive got the exact same rifle as yours ( check my username) it was my dads favourite large rifle. Has shot 2 moose, 1 caribou, 1 black bear, 1 whitetail, 1 elk and 1 raccoon just for good measure! With 300gr federal powershoks it groups plenty accurate for me. Never had an issue with operation what so ever, love that rifle!
Attached is a picture of myself (left) with my guide and the elk i shot with it 09/24 of this year.

I was hoping you were somewhere between Alabama and New Mexico, I would’ve liked to shoulder the rifle to see if I “need” one. I’m heading to NM for a crane hunt next week and will have some time to kill on the way out there.

If you make it to the Dallas-Ft. Worth area sometime, you're welcome to shoulder mine just to see if you like it.

Passing through late Wednesday night and I truly appreciate the offer.

Hunter's greetings to you all. I am in the process in buying a new Zastava 375HH here in South Africa. I am requesting about the possible groupings size of a 375HH in general with variable weights. I know and except it as being a DG rifle and this caliber is new to me, but I am looking forward in having some Magnum fun and ultimate success. I am going to reload and considering Peregrine Bullets in Bushmaster and Plainsmaster in 250 to 270 grains and Impala Bullets of various grains as well. Aiming/planning velocity to 2700f/s. I am seeing forward to the info from you all.

I don't have too much trouble getting 1 inch groups with mine at 100 yds.

Same here. 1 MOA with Speer 235 Hot Cor's. I'm starting the process of working up a Barnes 300gr TSX load, but expect it to do as well or better.
