Hello guys!
I'm leaving home next monday to my very first trip to Africa. I'm going on a plains game hunting trip in Namibia.
The thing is that in order to get my departure flight back to Brazil, where I live, I would have to stay the night in Johannesburg. So, I decided to make it four nights to at least know the city a bit.
Besides the tourist places, of course I'm interest to visit places in relation to hunting: Guns and Hunting equipment shops, Taxidermity collections, Zoological Museuns and such .
Any tip?
Thanks!!

4 nights in Jo'berg. I would suggest that you head to Cape Town instead and spend 3 of the 4 nights there and one night in Jo'berg. Not a lot to do in Jo'berg/Pretoria it can be done in a day.

I have heard that Safari & Outdoor is pretty extraodinary. Pretty sure I could spend an entire day there! I would have to leave my money and credit cards back in the hotel room though ;)
The good folks at Afton House or Africa Sky Guest House would probably be able to give you some good guidance and line up any day trips or reservations you may need.
To state the obvious, JoBurg can be dangerous so make sure you know where you're at and where you are going. Stay safe.
I hope you have a wonderful trip!

Maybe an overnight or two in Kruger National park??

We went to Safari and Outdoor in Pretoria on our way out to hunt. Great store. I could spend and spend and spend there if not careful! You can find any high-end hunting item for sale there.

I believe Highveld and some other taxidermists are also in Johannesburg.

I would second going through one of the large taxidermy houses--Highveld is worth a trip just to see their operation--whether you use them or not! Cambanos is also worth a visit. But, as has been stated, be very wary in JNB!

Safari Outdoors in Pretoria, the photos on the wall are worth the stop!

Thanks a lot guys! About the danger, I'm from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil! Our awareness about that is second to none!! Ahah
We'll visit the Etosha Park in Namibia and after nine days in a hunting lodge too, even a mad elephant would not be able to drag my wife to another park.
A visit to Cape Town will have to wait the next trip, unfortunately.
I'm definitely going to those shops!!

If you can't be talked out of Jo'burg, Stay in Sandton.

Zimbi has a nice selection of African hunting books.

Thanks for all the tips guys!
After my hunting trip in Namibia, I stayed for four nights in Joburg in the Radisson Blue Gautrain ( Sandton, less than 5 min walk to Mandela Square and the other Shopping Malls ) a very nice 4 stars hotel.
I went to Safari and Outdoor in Pretoria and was amazed by it. Spent a good money in books, dvd's and small shooting acessories even being careful! Those guys have everything you need and more.
Cambanos and sons was another great tip for african souvenirs ( I bought a beautiful cold cast bronze statues of rhinos and other of a warthog among other stuff and of course a ring for my wife )
I passed Zimbi just because I got plenty books and dvd's at Safari and Outdoor, but maybe next time.

Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
To much to political shit, to little Africa :-)
Spending a few years hunting out west then back to Africa!

I doubt you are interested in any trades but I was getting ready to list a Sauer 404 3 barrel set in the 10-12 price range if your interested. It has the 404J, 30-06 and 6.5 Creedmoor barrel. Only the 30-06 had been shot and it has 7 rounds through it as I was working on breaking the barrel in. It also has both the synthetic thumbhole stock and somewhere between grade 3-5 non thumbhole stock
