Just past 17:50 wow

Was that a flinch I saw?

Hey, don't be mean to us guys who screw our hats on backwards sometimes.
If you're not going to wear it right, at least wear it right.
:ROFLMAO:

This hat would have been more appropriate.

Ok, I watched the video again, and I have a couple of questions.

1. Does it mean he only had one round in the rifle after he shot at the buffalo?
2. Why did he only load one round in the rifle?
3. Did he shoot at the buffalo more than once (not shown in the video) and forgot to reload?

I've never hunted DG, but I think I would go in the field with the rifle full load of 3+1, or so. I would also keep count of how many times I've fired, and reload accordingly.

I'd be embarrassed to have a video like this air on a hunting show.

To paraphrase an old saying, "Better to be thought a fool than to post a video on the internet and remove all doubt".

for me its a video :
How not to do.
And he forgot to reload.
Classical beginner mistake.
It also throws a bad light on the PH, that he didn't say anything and let him rush forward.
The big luck of the big-boiled hunter was, that the buffalo was not one of the fighters.
Foxi

@Foxi, trust me on this one, this guy does not listen to any advice from any PH, he is a know all and does just what he wants and what he himself deems as correct and ignores any advice given.

With him, I am sure the PH briefed him, he disagreed about most things and not wanting things to turn into an argument eventually the PH left it there so as not to destroy the dynamics of the safari in camp.

Running on his own, not reloading, emptying his rifle and wearing his cap the wrong way around is his normal modus operandi.

One of these times his luck is going to change for the worse.

To be honest, I am surprised it has not yet. I had the unfortunate displeasure of hunting with him long before he became a TV host. On that occasion he very nearly got a PH friend of mine killed with his stupid actions. Luckily my shot was true at very short range.

He is not the only one, I have hunted with another who is also another work of art.

Needless to say I will never hunt with either again. The one unfortunately still shoots (yes shoots, as he is not a hunter despite what he makes people believe on the footage that gets aired), out of a camp I hunt from but he knows where we stand and we generally leave it at that when we are both there.

Made me wonder if you'd had a run in.
Seeing that the PH in this video did not have the rifle off his shoulder made me wonder about the "plan" for follow up.
Most reasonable folks I know have concern about putting others in harms way with their behavior.

Stay safe.

One of the other Magnum Tv hosts shot his PH through the shoulder with a 458 magnum. Says a bit about them.

I watched the video again in peace.
He loaded is gun before. Maybe I'm wrong.Sorry.
Nevertheless he is not a recommendation (for me).

He must have run it empty. I don't believe we saw all the shots. No other reason to have to fumble a round out of his belt. Hope the PH was ready to shoot regardless of pre-hunt instructions.

And that hat thing - did I hear that this guy is Canadian? Could explain a lot. :A Outta:

I agree with IvW. I’ve had the misfortune to hunt with his type also. Seen the video before and was kinda routing for the buff. Shooting a right bolt left handed and empty Jeez

He sure did, however:

After his first two shots(the two initial ones), he reloads the rifle, chambers a round and cranks the scope down to low power, riming it like a child in preschool. This he could never achieve before(when I was present). Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang-oops!

He is using a 375 H&H.

Now a DG rifle in this caliber can take 5 in the magazine. Let's for arguments sake presume the rifle he is using only takes 4 in the magazine.

The next shot(who knows if it was the third shot on the ground) but in the video it is the third shot. The buffalo is lying down facing him, he takes careful aim and from the reaction of the buffalo it appears he misses the buffalo entirely(probably attempted a brain shot). The buffalo runs off.

The next shot is the one where he jerks the trigger on an empty chamber! nothing ejects from the rifle action so the gun was empty! then loads only one bullet and takes the next shot.

So this means between shot three(at the lying down buffalo) and shot empty chamber he banged off another minimum 3 probably 4 rounds without topping up the magazine again! Not the first time he has done this!

Very dangerous shooter and real foolish for endangering the lives of the trackers, cameraman and who ever else was present during the circus.

The PH probably realized this early on in the safari and decided discretion is the better part of valour(it's better to avoid a dangerous situation than to confront it-referring to the shooter and not the buffalo) and trying to explain things to him is of no use and held his distance, but still ready to deal with it if it was needed.

All about the ego and the footage for the audience.

The next episode in rehearsal

I'm glad nobody go hurt. A left handed shooter carrying a right handed rifle after DG seems foolish to me, but maybe he had a reason?
