Hi guys, I have a question for those who know a lot mor than me!

I have a Krieghoff Big 5 Double with 3 x barrel sets (quite unusual)
- 470NE,
- 9.3x74R
- 20g Shotgun

The rifle has been hunted with, so has some light handling marks. It shoots fantastically and is my go to for most of my hunting as there isn’t much better than walking in the bush with a double!

Here is the hitch, I have moved from RSA and am battling with the permits to take it with me. So I now have the horrible reality that I may have to sell it!

The question for those in the know, what would a set like this be worth?

And apologies I have no pics as the gun is in storage and I am in a different country at the moment.

☹️

What's the problem with the permits? I also live in South Africa, had to postpone a Zimbabwe hunt because the temporary export permit didn't receive in time. SAPS sucks!

My double is a Krieghoff Big Five too. There are so many different styles, versions - without having seen the pictures nobody can give a price because one has no clue...

However you can go to Krieghoff's website, find your exact model and engraving etc., then post the pictures. It might help.

Hi Bushpig4ever.
I need a permanent export doc and import doc and having some hassles.
Hopefully will be able to make a plan.

The gun is plain, with almost no engraving. So it’s not a “sidelock” style side plate, but it’s super clean.

Sounds like a great setup for Africa!

Hi Opposite Pole,

Thanks for that pricelist, things Have sure become expensive.

The 20g barrels are neat, but take some getting used to, as the stock is very heavy and the barrels are super light! So not well balanced, but I have shot a fair amount of clays with it, just takes some getting used to.

Not sure I would have done that if I had ordered if from new.

I hope you can find a way to keep your rifle. It sucks to have to loose a treasured possession, especially one which you've obviously put a lot of time and effort into getting just right.

I have often contemplated doing something similar, buying a Kreighoff Big 5 in either 470 or 500 and having an additional barrel set in 9.3x74R. Apart from money :Arghh: the other main doubt I have is the question of handling. The whole key to double rifles is balance and fit. My question for those who have actually used such a set is, will a Kreighoff originally fitted with a 470 barrel set, still have the same balance and feel when fitted with a 9.3x74R set?

Well, to be fair the 9.3x74R barrels are much lighter, so the balance isn’t perfect. However it isn’t bad enough to make me not use it. I love shooting that setup!

I shoot my Big Five with 9.3x74R barrels a fair bit. The 9.3 barrel set is much lighter than the 470NE one so the balance changes but I don't find it to be an issue. The weight shifts towards the back and it stays between the hands so the gun is not out of balance. The upside is the recoil is quite mild due to relatively heavy gun. In fact Krieghoff produces their double in a lighter alloy version up to 9.3 or 375 calibre (not sure which one). Personally I think my 470 and 9.3 is a great combo, like I said I use it a fair bit with both barrel sets and think it is a great rifle and one I can definitely recommend. The 9.3 barrel set is not soldered and is user adjustable for regulation which is quite handy. I've attached pictures of the two barrel sets, not sure how well it shows in the picture but one is a fair bit thinner.

Do you have any cull hunts available? 7 days, daily rate plus per animal price?
