Large Caliber Recoil Chart

I wasnt asking for the numbers, i was asking if they would add it to their chart, which i have no access to edit.
When I started the thread “Muzzle Energy vs Recoil vs Rifle Weight for Dangerous Game” including the subject recoil table, I received flak from a couple people because I didn’t include their uncommon pet cartridge https://www.africahunting.com/threa...oil-vs-rifle-weight-for-dangerous-game.84464/ . No good deed goes unpunished…

I crunched the recoil data for the most common dangerous game cartridges and made the recoil table to help the majority of members. I didn’t include any 9mm or 10mm cartridges nor did I include uncommon cartridges like the .475 Westley Richards, .470 Capstick, or any Dakota cartridges.

If someone needs data for those or any other cartridge, this is the link to Shooters Calculator where one can find trajectory, recoil, and energy for whatever data one inputs. https://shooterscalculator.com/

If anyone desires to show others how much recoil their pet cartridge in a particular weight rifle produces compared against common cartridges, they are welcome to make their own table.

Hi all,

I decided to create this chart for ease of reference. Hopefully it's helpful to someone out there! I used the .375H&H as the baseline for "relative recoil" analysis.

.375H&H to .500 NE. I can add additional calibers and weights if interested, just DM me.

In all honesty I feel more difference between 7x57/6,5x55 and 30-06 than I do going from 375 H&H to 585 Nyati. The numbers just detach from perceived reality somehow. I'am not saying the numbers are wrong but that the felt recoil isn't all that discernible going in to big bore territory.

cold again today (boiler not keeping up) so thought to use some brain energy keeping warm (although when I was working, researched brain energy consumption thinking all day and found it is highly efficient), so another chart. This shows the pressure impulse. As previously mentioned, the change in pressure vs time affects perceived recoil. Note the 416 rem mag sharp, snappy push vs the 505 gibbs slow push. but the Gibbs has almost double the recoil energy. In conclusion, who knows....
