Was cleaning out my gun safe and realized I have too many projects going on and thought there was a lefty out there that might put this to good use.
Stock work is by Al Lind in Washington State from a Luxus Turkish Walnut blank. It has wrap around checkering with a slight left hand palm swell, ebony forend, shadow line cheek piece, cross bolts, and skeleton grip cap. LOP over red recoil pad is 14.75” which leaves room to shortened if needed. Was originally built for my 375 H&H but to keep weight down I swapped it into synthetic and used this as the basis for harder kicking 416.
Metal work was completed by Jim Kobe in Minnesota. He started with a Left Hand Winchester New Haven Classic in 300 Win Mag and opened up the rear bridge to accommodate the 3.6” length. He chambered a Krieger 12 twist Stainless #5.5 contour blank in 416 Rem Mag finished at 23” and finessed the Sunny Hill follower to feed with dummies loaded with 400gr TSX at 3.60”. There are currently no caliber marking on the gun but can have it laser etched with caliber before shipping if buyer prefers. Installed NECG Masterpiece Adjustable rear sight, barrel band swivel, and NECG Masterpiece banded front sight with red fiber optic bead. He also installed a secondary recoil lug mounted under the barrel and bedded it in the stock. Bottom metal is factory 1 piece Winchester stainless and holds 3 down with one in the chamber. It would fit 4 down if you can find an original magazine spring without the hump in it. Jim also fabricated a set of his custom scope bases for Talley rings with a recoil shoulder and 8-40 screws and relieved the side so it doesn’t cover the rifles serial number. The rifle has a Jewell trigger installed but I also have the original Winchester factory trigger parts that will go with the rifle. Gun is heavy at 10.5lbs on my postal scale but it soaks up recoil off the bench and felt recoil is comparable to my H&H. I have four M70’s built by Jim and his work is first rate.
I fired exactly 7 rounds at the range just to get it on paper and first group with factory Nosler 400gr Partition was sub 1” at 100. I had intended to send the rifle off for Cerakote but got side tracked on other projects and have never finished the gun. My resolution for the year is to finish and shoot the guns projects I have more often and this one is being neglected by no fault of its own.
Asking $5,000 plus shipping to buyers FFL. Essentially that is what I have in just the stock work alone so priced to sell. Will ship in a Boyt hard case insured. Feel free to ask any questions and can provide more pictures if needed.
