So my new to me gun just came in and when I tried to turn on the lighted recticle nothing happened. I am hoping and thinking it is just a dead battery. But for those of you that have one when you hit the luepold button is it a definitive click? Also if anyone could could you take a picture of the inside so I can see how the battery/silver depressable thing goes in? Thanks for all your help!

On mine, the fire dot button doesn't give a distinct click. It does make s noise, but somewhat muffled.
A You Tube video showing how to change the battery on the VXR Patrol scope - same system as yours.

I have 4 of them. Great scopes. Need to hold the button in for a few seconds to turn on-off. Illum dot will blink when you get to the high and low intensity settings so you can cycle through them.

No click but they do fail. I have 3 VX-Rs, one had to be sent back to replace the switch (failed in 2 years) the other for a stuck elevation turret. (5 months after I sent it in to the custom shop for a CDS turret) I love the VX-R but they seem to have a QC issue with this model at Leupold. Not to mention the email I got stated it would take 7.5 weeks to get it back......

For the money, its a great lighted scope! I have one for my .375

How do you guys like these scopes? I’d like to put one on my 7mm Mauser and my Parker Hale 308. They are proving to be hard to find north of the border.

I have one in 4-12x50. I love it, my battery went dead few years ago and never bothered replacing it. For my eyes its just a gimmick, in low light my eye focuses on the red dot making the rest of the scope dark.

But i do love the scope. Mind you my 7mm mauser is for now going to wear my vx3 4.5-14x40

Great scope and the best warranty in the business

I have one on my double rifle. 1.25-4x if I remember correctly. No click for the light switch, but the light works reliably. I like the scope a lot, and it it about half the price of European scopes with similar features.

I have a couple of VX-R 3-9's (one a Patrol, the other a #4 ret), a 1.25-4x and a several VX6 dots.

They are superb scopes and the dot is variable in brightness across 10 different levels. Basically, you can be so dim as to be barely lit at night or full and visible on the brightest days. I'm very fond of being able to set the dot very dim and standing it in a blind. The scope will automatically shut off to save batteries and turn on the moment you pick it up.

Absolutely no complaints with them at all.

Likey a dead battery but if it was set on a low setting when last turned off you may need to click it several times to get intensity up so you see it. Try it in total darkness. Or just hold your hand over the end.

I have a multi fire dot and it switches on when moved. Goes off automatically after sitting.

Yep get the new batteries....they come in sleeves of four at the Battery store.

Any luck on getting this to work?

use a few of them in various models etc
great scopes and great guarentee

Got them on 2 rifles and love them. Often, I use the red dot instead of crosshairs. It's more accurate for me and shows up better in dim conditions.

It's pretty well covered above, but before you change the battery, watch through the scope and after 'turning it on' click it a number of times. After installing a battery it resets to zero or no illumination and you have to increase the Firedot intensity to something you can see. It will scroll up to max, and as you continue to click it, it will become dimmer and dimmer.

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
