Lubricant recommendation

For blued steel and wooden stocks - Balistol

For Lubrication - Mobil1 20W-50 & the odd need for grease I use Lucas Red & tacky grease.

NEVER WD-40!.... It's a solvent & water displacer not a lubricant.
WD-40 is a wonderful product, but it’s probably the most miss used as well.

Marvel Mystery Oil from any auto parts, walmart etc. Been around forever.

Wish I could remember how to access a study done on gun lubricants/corrosion resistance by brand over time. The study left mild steel plates out in the weather after lubricant use, and took pictures after I, then 2, then 3 month intervals in all weather conditions. Very informative, and in some cases surprising (tho more like embarrassing) concerning famous brands...

Hoppes 9 for cleaning and wiping down. Liquid graphite for anything that grease is preferred (hinges on doubles, bolt lugs, etc.). Renaissance Wax on wood and metal; I try to remember to do this prior to any hunt, but usually ends up getting done at random times between use. Good thing is, it doesn't dry up or rub off from casual handling very quickly. Nor does it collect dust.
I do live in CO where excess humidity is NOT an issue. Keeping wood stocks from drying out by occasionally refreshing the oil finish and waxing is a lot more of a concern than rust.

30+ years of IPSC & USPSA running everything from 45 1911s to limited 40s to Open class
38 Super Comp. AR15 , FN-FALs, and AR-10s All custom with very tight tolerances, we
tried everything and as crazy as it sounds STP engine oil at disassembly cleaning applied overbite,
then wiped as clean as possible was perfect for the high temps these guns can run at!
Also used lumber plate the same way and 0-30 Mobile 1 for extra lube if needed during matches.

luberplate is still a very good product, as is Break Free CLP, and Bore Tech lube!.
Most of the things here I've used at one time or another, many work well.
For removing lube frim metal parts Brake cleaner works well but done get it on anything else.

I've yet to find a use for WD40 for anything

It’s a great water displacer. That’s what the WD stands for. If your distributor get wet. Pull the cap off and douse it with WD-40. It will fire right up. It’s also a great tire installation lube.
There is 101 things to do with WD-40 on the farm. The gunroom not really.

I thought this was one of those male spam threads :ROFLMAO: Carry on!

Reza Call me any time you want to talk about Elephant. hunting and CMS.
I've hunted two Elephant with CMS.
In 13 African safari's and an equal number of North American hunts, BUZZ is the best guide I have ever hunted with.
