I will be traveling in Germany May 21-25 (pickup car rental in Frankfurt and fly out of Munich). No set itinerary at this point, so I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for “must see” things to see or do? Also, if there are any AHers interested in meeting up, I always enjoy swapping hunting stories (and maybe smoking a cigar or two!).

Hope you enjoy your trip and post some photos and details of your trip; a non hunting report.

I live in Germany, slightly out of the way of Munich driving from Frankfurt.

May will be really good.

Next week is supposed to have some rain Today was beautiful and next weekend will be beautiful.

Not sure where you are staying, but I'd push the alps later in the week to take in some of that beauty.

Porche, Unimog, Mercedes Benz, BMW and everyone else have interesting museums in their headquarters areas.

if you are very lucky you could get a tour at Blaser if you call when you get in. Heym and Krieghoff could probably do it as long as you call early.

The Frankonia in Wurzburg suburbs is the flagship store. The smaller stores are ok. The inner city stores kind of suck. Those are the better chain gunshops in Germany,k kind of like a sportsmanswarehouse but only hunting.

There are about 20 other stores.

The one in Darmstadt is fine if you can get to it.

The Stuttgart store is nice, and there is a ton of German trachten stores around it.

If you go to Innsbruck Austria Swarovski is on the far east side of town. There are a couple of good hunting stores in Innsbruck. I think you can do an optics factory tour. Most of their tours are centered around their crystal world center. Interesting if you have a woman with you, and there is a Swarovski optic pro shop in the world of Swarovski crystal center.

https://routetogermany.com/drivingingermany/autobahn. If you have not been here before you need to take a look at this information on driving.

About 30-70% of the Autobahn has no speed limit. But some of it does, and some times it is only 60 or 80 during construction or if there is water, 100, or a thousand other reasons. Most of the time it is 130 if it isn't unlimited.

2 lane Authobahns are mostly 130, rural 3 lane autobahns are mostly unlimited.

You are too late to figure out hunting or fishing, you would need a big lead time on that.

What are you looking to do?

Beer is amazing.

Pork is amazing.

Hofbrau house in Munich will be good

Munich also has a great gunshops.

Thanks for all of the helpful advice (I hadn’t really considered visiting gunmakers, but will have to look into that!). Other than guns/hunting, I have to say my main interests while visiting Europe are history (primarily medieval, Reformation, WWII, etc.), food and anything tobacco-related, haha! Especially pork, I must say. . . .

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter!!

When we used to live there, my family and I enjoyed visiting Rothenburg on de Tauber and Neuschwanstein Castle, Both are iconic places along the Romantic Road. Since you will have a rental car, you could drive the entire stretch of Romantic Road and visit different towns and castles along the way.

If you visit Rothenburg, I recommend staying overnight there. Walking around the town at night, with less fellow tourists, gives you a totally different experience.

This is the best non-alpine town for tourism.

Mittenwald near Garmisch is picture perfect, makes Jackson, Vail and Aspen look like complete shit holes.

Garmisch is just ok. There are much prettier alpine towns in Austria.

If it was me, this is what I would do.

Go to the Moselle river or Rhein and do a day cruise of the castles.

Hit up Rothenberg on the Taber, there are like 8 places called Rothenberg in Germany. Make sure you go to the correct one.

Continue on to southern Bavaria and Baden Wurtenburg and hit up the King Ludwig castles.

I don't smoke and I never have, tobacco is a big deal here. I don't know anything bout it a friend of mine is a pipe guy and he doesn't think this is a good place for pipe smokers. I think Austria is thought, I have not seen a pipe smoked since I have been here. Rarely a cigar.

There are a million castles, I don't know how you prioritize one over another. I live within a 15 mile circle of at least 8. 100 mile circle would give you more than you could count.

I'll be on the road end of next week. I will try to check this if you get stuck for ideas.

I was probably interested in history a little bit, but this is my 12th year in Europe. I am kind of over it. I revert back to the same guy that just wants to go fishing, hunting and hang out with family.

If this is your first time, the vastness of all the history is overwhelming.

I work in a government building from the 1850's that was a big part of the night of long knives were the Nazi's murdered their own SS troopers. There are bullet holes on the cemetery fence across from my office.

History is everywhere here.

Nurenberg is worth a visit.

In May roe deer season should be open in Germany. If your visit coincides with the open season then you could consider spending a day or just an evening out hunting with a guide.

Yeah, Roe are open. Not saying you wont' find a guy to hunt within the next couple weeks, but the odds are bloody low.

I am hunting roe all of May in Germany and Slovenia. You might find a hunt from someone.

You have a lot of barriers to entry, no German hunting license, no EU gun permit, no legal right to a rifle.

Try contacting K and K Premium Jagd in Dortmund above. They might have some options in Germany, France, Austria, Poland, Hungary, Czech or Slovakia that wouldn't be more than a days drive away.

We have very little proper guided hunts in Germany like the rest of Europe. They mi

Wow this thread brings back so many good memories form when I was a MP stationed bear Hielbron. I visited many of the places mentioned. If you are a nature lover a visit to the konigsee is a must great fishing and absolutly gorgeous mountain vista along the lake.

Do not miss the cologne cathedral.
Battlefield of Kalkriese, (German tribes annihilated 3 Roman Legions in 9 AD) Bridge of Remagen, Berlin (second stupidest Government on this planet), Dresden, Würzburg (best German wine!) German Museum in Munich, Audi Museum in Ingolstadt, Lake Constance, "Adolf's" Eagles nest near Berchtesgaden.

Germany has so many must see sights it is impossible to list them all. I would recommend narrowing your focus to what interests you. The most important thing is to just enjoy yourself and try new things. Have a great trip.

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.

I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).

Very interested.

Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?

I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
