Hi all!
Up for sale is my Merkel 140AE, DE in 470NE.
I inherited this from my father shortly after he passed away in 2015. He purchased it along with a Wycliffe single shot rifle a few years before that. I believe the seller was located in Pennsylvania, on the off chance this information helps with some provenance. For the last 9 years I’ve done nothing but occasionally oil/wipe down this double. To my knowledge he never fired it, but I believe the previous owner did. Lockup is tight and everything feels very solid. It was imported into Trussville, Alabama. I believe this indicates Steyr acted as importer.
Rifle itself is in 95%+ condition. A few pressure marks, storage marks (me), etc are present and I did my best to photograph them. This particular 140 has a nice game engraving on the receiver.
I understand how suspect it is for someone with little posting history here to post a rifle like this for sale. My background with firearms is in K98k collecting and informal recreational shooting. I have buying/selling history over at the K98k forum that can be verified. I may cross post this over there at some point, too.
For this reason, and both your and my protection, I *strongly* prefer to conduct this sale in person, through an FFL dealer, here in Western Montana. If not possible it can ship from my local FFL to your FFL. I’ve seen at least one Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation member/supporter on here and hope that speaks to local interest.
Buyer will receive the Merkel itself, two A Zoom snap caps, original box, and a Pelican case with foam cut to the rifle.
Asking $12,000 USD, shipping costs determined by my friendly local FFL.
