Mispronounced gun names

Grand vs Garand
vs. "Jerr' und"

And while not technically a mispronunciation, I remember being at a gun store counter when a customer asked if they carried ammunition for his "Ruger-Luger-High Standard" pistol.

So is it lea-pold or lew-pold or lewa-pold?

Living close to their headquarters/factory and meeting a few people that have worked for them, you would think I would know...but I have heard all three pronunciations over the years by people that should know...

Leupold at one point had the pronunciation spelled out in their catalogue as loo-pold. People have mispronounced it as Lee-o-pold for so long I get the impression that they have given up.

Is Sako pronounced Socko or Sayko?

Franchi (when pronounced "fran-chee" instead of "franki" as it should be pronounced).

And my personal least favorite: Manurhin (when pronounced "man-urine" instead of "m'nureen" as it should be pronounced).

vs. "Jerr' und"
Ga-RAND vs GAR-and. Hatcher was clear that Garand rhymes with “parent.”

Also “carbine” instead of “carbeen” drives me batty.

SVAR-oFF-sky is how you say Swarovski.

Kind of a rare one in America, but not totally.

Rößler or Rössler RÖWA

German 101
So the ß is actually SS not a B.

ö this is a long O sound. Like the o in Coke

So the words is Row-ssler ROW-VA

many people have tried to tell me this is ROW Bler

theyre not mispronouncing anything.... theyre just speaking Texan...

:D
I was going to say southern. Or New Englander, ie. Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
