update: well its been a month and no rifle. i sent an email asking when the rifle would be back but only got a vague response saying:

They are working on your rifle, it is not done and they have not given me a ship date as yet.
When I get more information, I will most definitely pass on the information to you.

My experience with Montana was very good. I cracked the stock on my Lott. The turnaround time was about 2 weeks hope you get everything worked out

as Royal27 said, i dont really mind waiting but i want to know how long im going to be waiting. i sent another email expressing the importance of some sort of ECD.

Matt hope it all gets sorted out as nothing worse than not getting what you paid for, functional rifle. It would seems like in a month they could give a little more detailed explanation. I would lean on them a tad harder. But I had no idea how hard it was to buy my son in law a deer rifle L/H action, no cool RMEF edition or anything really in the Remington line as least. Good luck

Me too, I had to search gun broker and finally found a LH M70 Classic in 416 Rem. It required a bit of work too, even though it was basically unfired and I only used factory ammo. I beginning to believe all of the CRF rifles in cartridges above 375 H&H will take some work unless you go custom and even then maybe.

I'm thinking you're right, which is sad. I guess the OEMs would just rather keep the overall costs down and let more than they should come back.

When I got the new (to me) Lott the very first thing I did was fill it full of cartridges to see how it cycled. So far so good, although I haven't tried anything with a flat nose yet.

I just spoke with a gentleman at Mt Rifle Co. and I asked him if they had an issue with the stocks cracking under recoil. He told me that most of the issues have been from shipping.
I ordered one, I am a weak man! He said 12 weeks to build.

I find a regular problem with cracked stocks due to shipping hard to believe. There is plenty of protection in those boxes. Is it possible? Sure, I guess, but come on!!!!

Now that I got that out of the way tell us what you bought!!!!! A .505 Gibbs?

I agree Royal, I was a dealer for quite a while and maybe had one gun damaged during transit. Hopefully Matt's problem will get resolved soon. I got a .505, I'm really excited about it. Matt made a lot of sense in his 500 NE to 505 Gibbs comparison. I'm not giving up my Searcy 500 NE dream, just supplementing it!lol If nothing else when I get mine we will have one more to compare quality of the product they turn out

I got a .458 Lott as my interim big bore until such time as I can afford a double. I ended up with a smoking hot deal on a used custom rifle, or I would have gotten a Montana.

they are the only non custom rifle maker I know of that makes left hand big bores, so it would have been an easy choice.

Almost all of my bolt action decent kickers get the following treatment prior to firing them:
Triple cross pins, glass bedding, an extra recoil lug under the barrel/inlet into the barrel channel, short piece of threaded steel rod set in glass bedding just behind this extra barrel lug socket (said rod is cut short enough to not poke through either side of the forearm).
In some rifles I have also had him add lead to the stock to brig the whole rifle up to whatever weight I wanted.
This last one takes some careful planning because if done willy-nilly, it can put your rifle off balance.

a few things you probably know but i didnt when i got into the cartridge.
1. you need a larger press to load the 505 Gibbs cartridge. (the lee cast press works but needs an adapter)
2. the standard RCBS bullet puller with 50 cal collet will pull the bullets. (you dont need the expensive large size puller)
3. Jamison makes brass which can be bought here: http://www.custombrassandbullets.com/jain.html

ill happily share any load data ive got if you want it.

That Lott you got is an awesome looking rifle, not to mention all the goodies with it! I've got .458 WM in a M70 and a Ruger #1. Thinking bout punching the Ruger out to Lott length chamber.

I really like it. Cant wait to shoot it more!

I'm not a rifle/cartridge guru like matt and velo are, but I really do like the Lott. And with that rifle at least recoil is very managable, with much less muzzle flip than I thought it would have. Funny what a well fitting rife will do.

i love new guns... doesnt matter if its mine or not. i get just as excited when my friends buy guns as when i buy my self a new gun. its easier on my wallet when other people buy new guns for themselves LOL.
