You are welcome. As we discussed on the phone, until the end of last year, hippo from Mozambique were subject to a CITES trade suspension. In November, the CITES Standing Committee agreed to lift that suspension.
Hippo are not listed under the U.S. Endangered Species Act but are on CITES Appendix II. Without the CITES Standing Committee suspension, there is no jurisdiction or authority for the FWS to prevent imports. Therefore, hippo from Mozambique are importable to the U.S., and no U.S. import permit is necessary. A CITES export permit must be obtained from Mozambique.
