My 404J is Here!!

Yes sir that is a fine shooting stick!

Thanks, all, for the complements. Very much looking forward to seeing what she can do. @Rob404, can you see the pics? I uploaded them and they show up when I open the thread.
Yes I can see the Pics now, very nice indeed My CZ weighs in at about a LB heavier than yours, maybe due to the larger capacity magazine and the Mercury recoil reducer added to the stock, I'm trying some Reloader 15 along with some 400g Swifts, looking to get about 2200fps or better let us know how your load development comes along. Hell of a nice looking gun case also

Congrats! I hope she groups as great as she looks!

Hi Custom.
My 404Jeffery was build on a standard length 98 Mauser Action.

Thanks again, all. @Rob404 I am sure the weight difference is due to the magnum action in your CZ. That is the reason I went this route for the trimmer action on the M70. The downside is I get three down in the Winnie and you get four or five in the CZ.

Custom, you in good company now, the yearning is passed, your journey begins now, envy will follow you, you have the perfect rifle, you have arrived, you own a 404 Jeffery now, still the yearning of others continue ..(y)

Thanks, Gert. Well said.

I had thought about converting a WW11 Mauser to 404 but picked up the CZ in 375HH at a good price. the bolt and the Mag had to be opened up a little I had CZs custom shop handle the complete conversion.
I just returned from the range I loaded 74g of RL15, with a 24" barrel and a 1-10 twist I was able to get right at 2200fps, I know there are different combination out there so I'm anxious to see how your loads develop

Haven't made much progress yet due to work schedule, but will let you know. I bought some brass and Cor Bon ammo from another member which I am shooting at the moment. The Cor Bon ammo is loaded to 2150 fps with 400 gr tsx, which is accurate and downright pleasant to shoot.

Oooohh, I want one, I want one......

Beautiful rifle. Awesome cartridge.

Beautiful rifle and classic cartridge! Congratulations!

Sandman, now that is what I meant about the "yearning" for a 404 Jeffery... Some people perceive this feeling as a longing to just be able to have a 404 Jeffery in your hands, to be able to pull the trigger and feel the adrenaline surge when the shot blast across the shooting range and every one`s head turns in your direction with awed struck faces just to see you shooting another round down the range ....immediately you have a fan club around you..all of them yearning to do what you just did...shooting a 404 Jeffery...(y)(y)

I used 400 gr TSX in my .404 last August on my Zim buffalo. Performed perfectly.

Gsxrmike, do you have photos of recovered bullet? How was the penetration? Where did you shoot it on the body and at what distance?

I always find a boom stick that fits well is worth more than anything as you know when the shit hits the fan what you point at will get hit. :W Rifle:

I agree , maybe this sounds too logic, but the 404 Jeffery I shoot fits really well , it therefore decrease/absorb a lot of felt recoil...muzzle lift is minimum, it increase fast working bolt procedure....it finds the target extremely fast, keep on the target for the following shot...it is a joy to shoot...(y)

Looks Great! Z6 1-6 Illuminated?

Looks Great! Z6 1-6 Illuminated?

Thanks. The scope is a Leupold VX 6 1-6 illuminated duplex reticle. It is a true 1 power scope so at the lowest setting you can shoot with both eyes open. Great attribute when a buff is bearing down!

I'm down in the garage today Re-loading and counted 50rds of 404 I shot last week, at about $4.00 a shot wholesale thats still $200.00, can't imagine having to pay 10-12 bucks a round retail, I'll finish up with it this week then retire it to the closet til I go back to Africa for Buff

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
