My model 70 in 375 has been in the shop getting ready for my first dg trip this June, cut the barrel to 20 inches and put a can on her. Handles great and I can not wait to shoot this thing… looks way better than i thought and has great balance with the can.

A Penn International would look right at home on it. How long is that rifle?

Awesome. I have plans to purchase a M70 and doing the same thing. Who did the threading? Would be interested in the velocities you get with a 20” if you get a chance.

barrel is 20 inches
I do not think I would attempt to actually hunt a buffalo with that suppressor attached anywhere but a wide open game farm or perhaps the Zambezi Delta marshes. Even there, I personally would have no use for a suppressor, but it would be possible. The typical scenario in most of Africa south of the Sahara finds the client, PH, and tracker maneuvering as silently as possible through very thick cover (the same scenario also often occurs hunting PG.) A reasonably compact, hard hitting rifle is ideal in such conditions. A .375 can absolutely be such a rifle, though I would not trim one of mine to 20 inches - I personally think 22 is about perfect on a typical bolt action. I get the same overall rifle length with a 25.75 inch barrel on my R8 due to the compact action. With that huge thing hanging off the end one creates the antithesis of such a rifle.

So why?

Why? Personal preference. I'm not too keen on the loud muzzle blast a 375 produces. I also don't care for messing with hearing protection while out hunting. This rifle in factory form is 24" correct? The hybrid suppressor that I intend to use is 8" so I'd be dealing with a net increase of 4" which IMO is manageable. If I end up with a magnus S, it'll be even shorter. That's a slight penalty for a significant benefit to me. I don't know the specifics of OPs can, but it looks to be modular for a shorter configuration. The velocity difference in your proposed 22" vs 20" is likely negligible although I have not data to support that.

Simple answer, cause it’s badass and will be way more fun to shoot accurately and frequently. The suppressor is modular, so while hunting I can run it in the configuration that is 4 inches shorter… I’d rather have my first shot be more accurate than concern myself with how swingable my rifle is for follow ups.

 Badass. I'll have to file that away for future discussions about the attributes of effective DG rifles and their configuration. Enjoy.

@Wiley64, I absolutely love the look of the 20" barrel. I have had the barrels on both my .375H&H and 416 Rigby curt down to 20". Less weight, easier to get through the bush, no significant loss in velocity.

I’m already leaning towards doing this to a 416 as well!

I have never had a need for supressor on a hunting rifle, or DG rifle.
But thats just me. If I take it to the range, I will use hearing protection. If I am hunting, I will manage without that.
I would prefer a rifle, or DG rifle to be of short-ish size, but without affecting original designed barrel length. I would prefer DG rifle to keep iron sights, for emergency situations in the bush, and with that to have scope QD mounts, and iron sights zeroed and tested on short range.
Attaching a suppressor on a rifle is personal choice, I have no issue with that, but having my already conservative views, this all brings me further away from the original idea of having iron sights, and standard lenght barrel fire arm.
So, not for me.

Having said that: most probably DG can be hunted with anything: bows, revolvers (possibly pistols), and suppressed rifles where legal. And with PHs back up gun, in condition 1, ready for housekeeping when things turn nasty.
But that all is not for me.
