My Covid vaccination experience

I don't know anybody that died directly from C19 or from complications from C19. Not one. I know several people that got C19 and all survived after a few days of flu like symptoms. I suspect I might have had it last February but that's just a guess. Same with my wife. FWIW, me, my wife and most of my friends are over 60. Even the ones that aren't are mostly 50+. None of us wear masks unless we absolutely have to (government buildings), we all meet regularly to share meals/coffee and we're all going about our lives as if nothing is going on.

I've read the statistics about C19 and concluded it's mostly nonsense. C19 is real and if you're over 70 with several other health issues you're probably a statistic waiting to happen. However, all the other health issues you have are what ultimately kills you. C19 is just a contributing factor. Very few people of any demographic die solely because of C19.

I won't be getting the vaccination for three reasons:

1. I don't think it's necessary. I'm in good health and under 70. That puts my survival rate somewhere around +99%.

2. Never fly the A model of anything. I think I'll sit this one out until more info is available about the efficacy and safety of these rushed to market vaccines.

3. Getting the vaccine changes nothing because I'll still have to comply with nonsensical government mandates. Masks, social distancing, occupancy rates, artificial quarantines, etc aren't going away. The socialists have won.

Get the vaccine if you want. I'll pass.

This isn’t the CV-19 debate thread. This thread is about those of us that actually have gotten the vaccine or plan to get it. You can find the debate thread elsewhere on this website but since you went off topic, here’s my two cents.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion and I would fight for your right to an opinion. That said, I do know people that hardly had symptoms and other people that were healthy and died. I am an outfitter and guide about 26 trips each year and most are guided two on one with other guides and hunters in camp also. Perhaps you have a job where you don’t interact with the public but many of us do. I know of at least three outfitters in Colorado that had a substantial part of their season ruined because they and their guides got CV and had to shut down. It also ruined the hunts for the clients. I don’t want this to happen to me, my clients or my guides. My daughter is a nurse and sees people with and without underlying conditions live and die weekly in a major hospital. I also have a lot of clients that are doctors. That said, I am not running scared of CV and I certainly agree that parts of this issue are overblown but getting the vaccine isn’t one of them.

There is plenty of information on the CDC website and on the websites of the vaccine manufacturers about how the vaccine was developed. They already had the genetic sequence so that made it faster. I was told today when I was vaccinated that as the virus mutates, the vaccine may not prevent a person from getting sick but that the evidence so far is that it protects you from dying. This was shown to be the case with the South African strain. I was told that as the CV mutates, that the current vaccines can be quickly updated to prevent sickness and that a third booster shot could be given a year or two or three later. Seems reasonable to me. People that will practice vaccination hesitancy will just slow down a hopeful return to a more normal existence for the rest of us, but I guess that’s your right.

Been reading of vaccinated persons coming down with the virus a second time so not sure it's working to full potential like "they" had hoped. Time will tell.
Still on the lowest priority tier in our area so have to wait and see when it's available.

You're right it's not a debate and it is good to see on this forum that people can have a healthy discussion about the subject without it turning into a slinging match and shit fight. I feel it's good to hear from all sides that way we can make informed decisions about about things based on individual circumstances and experience.
This is why I like our community so much.
The respect and friendship on this site has also influenced a lot of people on hunting decisions, firearms and calibers of choice.
We should be proud of ourselves for this ongoing thought and consideration of our fellow hunters.

I'm still trying to figure out the registration system. As of now, I am not yet eligible for pre-registration. They just announced pre-registration for those 65 and up, as we have a vaccine supply issue in Tucson. I turn 59 soon.

One of my beat friends died two weeks ago. He was 60 and healthy with no comorbidity issues.

I was given the opportunity to take the first shot at work today. I declined mostly because they informed me that although it is expected to get sick for a short time with the second shot it would likely be far worse if the first shot is taken less than 90 days since you actually had covid.
I have roughly 5 more weeks before I pass that mark.

Problem is... Arizona has a skewed demographic - lots of older retired people who, according to the CDC, deserve a place ahead of you in line due to the risk they face.

I had my first vaccine shot (Moderna) and will have my second in a few days. I think they are doing a very good job in my county.

I don’t want to argue Covid. There are two factions and neither will be altered by the others opinions or even the facts.

The vaccines provide more numbers of antibody production than getting CV and they last longer. May require a booster at some point is true. Info is available on CDC website.

Round number two went into the left deltoid at 1600PST today. Strangely, the injection site is less sore than round one. I'll update tomorrow.

I got my 1st Pfizer vaccine shot on Jan 28th. No problems other than slight injection site pain. Got 2nd shot on Feb 19th. No problems. 71 yrs young.

Nothing more than a slightly sore shoulder when I put pressure on it today. Maybe a bit of a bit of a headache and lethargy, but that could also be attributed to the post vaccine Buffalo Trace. Took some Ibuprofen when I got home from work and all is well.

I read today that Moderna has developed a vaccine for the nasty little variants growing out there. I'll gladly take that one too after it passes muster.

Another interesting thing I found today is that there is some research showing that the common Influenza vaccine reduced serious Covid problems by some ~25%.
