There was the unfortunate accident this spring with Christie De Sousa, the owner and PH of Christie's Adventures based in Namibia.
Just wondering if anyone knows the status of this outfitter, are they still operating?
I have a deposit with this outfitter for a hunt for 2015 and am trying to finalize some details and have not been able to get hold of the person in charge with emails or via phone for the last month.
Also interested if anyone did a hunt with this outfitter for 2014 and any feedback.
Any info would be appreciated.

I'm going to try and send you a link in a PM.....

Namibia is a BIG COUNTRY with a few people BUT in Namibia we are all like one big family. The accident of Christie was very bad for all of us. His wife Madelein is still on the farm. I can provide you with her telephone number if you inbox me.

We were treated like family in Namibia by everyone, especially by Christie and he's outfit. Huntin Africa, do you know if young Lourens is still with the outfit? thanks

Thanks to all for the information. I was finally able to get hold of Madelein and everything has worked out, will get to do my first trip to Africa and experience Namibia this October.

Justhunt ... do you know what is Lourens Family Name?

Grobler, thanks Huntin Africa

gpelkhunter you will love Namibia. It is my favorite place in the world outside of Texas! The people are wonderful and the landscapes are amazing. I hope you will feel as at home there as I do. I am headed there in September and can hardly wait.
Regards,
Philip

Brickburn, Do you work for a living or only research everything African?

I do realize that this thread is 10 years old now, but I am wondering if any of you knows whatever became of Madelaine, the DeSousa family, and Christies beautiful farm and business?

I hunted there back in 2005 and was so sad to hear the tragic news

What a beautiful place and memories!

I hunted with Christie Adventures, mid 2000's. What an outstanding time, highest wild game concentrations I have ever seen, such a vast unfenced area we hunted, 18 days of hot barrel's, managed an awesome leopard from his kudu kill, 57" broomed kudu and 40 others; the ant bear still garners most questions from my room. What a hunt, his cave camp was unbelievable, even shot a cobra from behind the stove..

I have no details and am not sure what happened to operation after his accident and tragedy.

Yes an incredible place and hunt.

Now that I know better, he did screw me. When I planned the hunt I told him that I first and foremost wanted to kill a leopard and he told me 100% that we would get me one
I was there for 2 weeks

I went with 2 other guys and we shot a lot of plainsgame, and I realize now after 2 successful leopard hunts where I learned how to hunt leopard, that he put no effort into the hunt as his goal was to cash in on plainsgame. He had 5 half ass baits out that we "checked" every 3 days. They were rotting in the sun and he said that it was ok. But as I said I didn't know better at the time

It wasn't until I killed one in Zimbabwe and another in Zambia that I realized how leopards are really hunted that I realized how much he lied to me

ANYWAY! Lol. It was a great place with tons of plainsgame. When I heard how he died, by crashing his car, I wasn’t surprised. He would drive like a manic on those dark roads at night and I told him many times to slow down. Once I got out of the car and walked for a half hour because we hit a kudu at 50 mph and I have no idea how we didn't roll over.

That said, I felt so bad when I heard about his accident and I always wondered what became of that beautiful place

Where did you kill your leopard, do you remember the area? How big was it? We saw huge tracks all over the roads so I'm sure you got a big one...good for you!

Post a picture if you have one I would love to see it

I will also say all was not perfect, we were also not surprised when I heard the sad news. His DUI driving was madness. We had 2 PH's for our 18 days, the other lived on the property also, my biggest issue was the fact that we HAD to be back at camp around 11, then he was at the bar till 3, after supper camp was like a bar till wee hrs of morning. I spoke to him on second day, told him no more, we want to immerse in Africa not the bar. Day 3 we headed back to bar at 11, I was somewhat pissed, after lunch and he had a few I told him we were going out hunting. He told me to take the truck keys and go ahead. So we did. I am a guy who does not get lost and has a good sense of direction, so we went to a different blind to "hunt" PH less daily, 11-3 with a cooler box lunch. This became the norm for all days where he put us close to camp around 11 so they could drink. After first 2 days he gave us a worker to keep an eye on us. My group, 2 sisters and I were only hunters in camp. Was the time of our lives. Had a free list to shoot. Ration meat, rabies kudu, bait animals, shot 5 warthogs from one blind, we were "filling the truck" he told me. He was an outstanding PH, fully knew the area, animals, habits, the 4 of us had a blast together away from booze, and we got many way above average trophies, poor guy just had a drinking problem.

I had same experience as you but opposite, I went to Namibia for leopard after Zim hunts failed. Permit issues, local people disturbing baits, lots of females but no shooters seen. Christies leopard hunting was tuned in, We had many baits out, refreshed constantly and had a few males feeding, problem was they were smart, never feeding 2 nights on same bait. While we were in the mnts, I shot a mnt zebra, we had just found it when the radio crackled that they had found a kudu female killed and hardly eaten by a big leopard on one of the cattle farms across from his main camp. We left extra PH and guys to cut and pack out zebra. We ran down mnt and got to area, put a pop up blind brushed in. Went for lunch=boozless and were back in blind before 5. 7.30 I got the double tap, looked out scope and seen the most awesome site, big male leopard had kudu by neck and was pulling her. One shot, big growl then silence. We both went out with lights and he was dead 20 yds away. That night I did have a couple beers.

I do not know any details on the accident that took Christie, just that a kudu jumped on main blacktop and he hit/swerved and was ultimately killed in accident.

Being in the Navy for 34 years I have seen many great, hard working, fun and friendly people taken down by alcohol. Saddens me even today.

First of all GOOD FOR YOU WITH THAT BEAUTIFUL LEOPARD!! Good thing that you found a kill that the leopard made himself so he felt comfortable returning to it. That's a nice big mature one

Beautiful Kudo too!

Yes exact same thing with drinking by 11 and then they would sleep until 3. I was there in 2005 and the PH who lived on the property was a blond kid in his 20's damm I forgot his name. They were all boozers though and if they put 1/2 of that effort into hunting it would have been incredible

I bet that the wife sold the place and moved back into the city because I don't see any hunts listed there anymore
