New Leupold VX6 Patrol 1-6 FireDot

Good luck with your upcoming surgery, looking forward to your evalution of this scope, I was looking at these for my ruger no.1 rsi in 7x57.
I have the same rifle with a 2.5x8 Leupold, really like the setup. Have read where a few guys like the variable Leupold Scout 1.5x4x 28mm on No.1s.

How does it carry and balance? I have been using a bushnell 1-4 on mine and it has worked fine for whitetail since the swamp, but I’m thinking an upgrade in optics would be nice, I like the way the smaller scope balances and carry’s

I like it, have quite a few 2.5x8 Leupolds, great glass and light weight. Have them on 2 Ruger No.1s as well as a few bolt actions. MY favorite all purpose scope.

Report on the VX6 Patrol. 1-6 FireDot Duplex
After two range sessions and right at 45 rounds out of the 458 Lott all is great.
Glass is clear like all VX6s. Great adjustments and NO CDS to mess with. I think this will be a great NON CDS big bore scope. Field use coming up in May for Buff Bull/Cow combo.

Question for anyone running this scope on a M70 - what height rings are you using? I have a Talley 2 piece picatinny rail on my rifle and it requires approximately 1” rings on top of that for the bolt to clear the throw lever when it is dialed up to 6x.

Definitely higher than I’d like it to be, but if I go lower than the bolt handle interferes with the scope throw lever.

Take off the throw lever, it could get in the way on a dangerous game rifle!

I dont use the throw lever on any scope. Especially a DG rifle.
I agree. I found the throw lever just increases the leverage that causes the rifle to twist. If I’m am aimed in on a target and want to adjust the magnification, it’s much easier to twist the ring with my fingers and keep aimed in than it is to push or pull the throw lever while keeping aimed in.
