:S Welcome:

Welcome to AH Rusty! Nice to have you join the posting side.

G’day from Australia

Hello all

I’ve been around this forum for a long time, doing my research. Not sure I’ll ever make it to Africa but I’ll be somewhat educated at least! There’s a lot of good info on here.

Is it Nails? Rusty? or Rusty Nails?

Good to have you here. Africa can be done on a budget if you are tight like me.

I’m in Western NSW and met a few good Aussies here in my travels and there are few more more widespread.

Plenty of help and info along with knowledgeable members who have plenty of of experience in Africa and many other countries.

Welcome welcome welcome

Good day! Welcome to AH!

Welcome aboard!

Welcome to the AH community.

Now as one of the many, many, many, enablers....I mean members here on AH. We like challenges....so lets start by exactly what makes you think you won't make an African Safari?

Finances? We can help. Go to your bank and set up a separate bank account ie Safari Account... money goes in and doesn't come out until there are sufficient amount of safari funds or a real catastrophic emergency. Each pay period deposit 10% of your pay into this account.

Fear of flying or heights? We can help. Travel by cruise ship.

Also Fear of water? We can help. Find a nearby swim instructor and learn to swim.

Need a big bore rifle? No. Just use your rifle caliber on hand and go after Plains Game.

Don't have a rifle? We can help. Get in contact with a nearby AH member to help you get through all the political red tape and purchase a nice 30-06, 7x57, or perhaps a 35 Whelen. Then learn to reload and practice, practice, practice.

Need an outfitter? We can help. As you read through the many hunt reports, asking questions, in starting your search and deciding on where, and what you want to hunt. There are many sponsors here on AH that list many deals and offers to choose from.

See we are a very enabling bunch.... excuse me, I meant to say friendly bunch.:A Gathering::A Too Cool::A Whistle:

Greetings Nails (Rusty),

Welcome to AH.

Well, thanks for all your replies.

As an introduction, I'll respond to RR's encouraging post above...

So, I've just retired at 62 - time is on my side and the money hasn't run out yet haha.
I've done plenty of flying during my working life and swimming, no issues there.
Guns, like most shooters I've got a nice collection and I bought my only DG rifle, 375H&H, about 6 months ago, I'm a Sako fan so it had to be a Sako 90 Bavarian. However I'm still trying to get it setup and have been looking for info regarding gun fit. Almost every search led to information on this forum. I'll be posting in the relevant sections soonish.
I've been reloading for a while although I still have plenty to learn. I've worked up some low power rounds for the 375 as an intro to the 'little' DG rifle.
I've got some good Aussie made hunting apparel but might need to add some Africa relevant items.
I've done several solo camping hunts here in Australia, but no DG up north yet.
Unfortunately, the only real barrier is health. The big C is so common these days its hard to avoid but I survived it, just issues with immune suppression/infections etc these days. My haem doc might be able to assist in prep for a visit to Africa sometime. Hopefully not too far down the track.

Thanks to others for the links, I will definitely look into those and read all the hunt reports, so interesting!

Mate, look into options if you want to do it.
Look for Malaria free areas, tell the outfitters and avoid the animals faeces etc and take care.
From joining the site to my first international trip it was 10 months.
I did a cull hunt but had the experience.
Life’s short and tomorrow is promised to no one.
A work mate went home sick halfway through a shift at the weekend and didn’t attend the next. He was retirement age and getting everything in order to finish up in the new financial year but passed away unexpectedly.
Money wasn’t an issue he was just working toward finishing in a new financial year.

In 13 African safari's and an equal number of North American hunts, BUZZ is the best guide I have ever hunted with.
