Congrats on surviving the big C. Hope your health continues to improve.

I hope we can provide you the positive motivation that will carry you though to realizing multiple trips to Africa.
--------------‐---------‐--‐-------------------------------------------

Seems you have checked 3 items off.

Next to convince you why you need something starting with .4 for DG.:cool:

In the meantime perhaps our many great outfitter sponsors on AH will tantalize you with Deals and Offers while the rest of us enablers.....Damn, did it again...I meant rest of us members convince you and your 375 DR needs to go to Africa, make memories and provide us with hunting reports with pictures of all the animals you hunted with it.

After all what are friends for; if not to help others to hunt Africa.
Hi RR,
your motivational skills are awesome! Thanks, I probably need a push or two and CBH gave a couple of pointers that could help a lot.
thanks

Welcome to AH and the posting side! Enjoy!

Welcome to AH! Nice to have you on the site.

Hello all

I’ve been around this forum for a long time, doing my research. Not sure I’ll ever make it to Africa but I’ll be somewhat educated at least! There’s a lot of good info on here.

At one stage we all thought we would never get to Africa but let me tell you a good hunt, even a cull hunt in Africa is cheaper than hunting a wild plough cow ( water buffalo) in Australia
To me it was a dream come true at a great price. That trip will stay with my wife, son and myself for the rest of our lives.
Depending on your age do it while you can and not wait until one day. One day may arrive to late and you will regret it. You can hunt Australia anytime but Africa may only be a once.
Where in Australia are you. There's a few of us here from all over Australia.
Welcome mate.

Is it Nails? Rusty? or Rusty Nails?

Good to have you here. Africa can be done on a budget if you are tight like me.

I’m in Western NSW and met a few good Aussies here in my travels and there are few more more widespread.

Plenty of help and info along with knowledgeable members who have plenty of of experience in Africa and many other countries.
@CBH Australia
Tight is an understatement mate. Ive been told your tighter than a fishes arse and that's water tight. Apparently your that right if'n y'all owned the ocean you would give ya mates a wave and in the pub you wouldn't shout enen if a shark bit you.
Despite the great traits you're still a top bloke mate.
Bob

Well, thanks for all your replies.

As an introduction, I'll respond to RR's encouraging post above...
@Nails
I wouldn't respond to @Ridge Runner mate he will have you in Africa hunting DG with a nice double before you know what's happening.
Our beloved Runner is one of the best enablers here. People have even bought ammo for guns they haven't even owned yet on his advice then buy the rifle.
Dang @Ridge Runner is that convincing he even had me starting to think the 243 was useful until I woke up from that nightmare.

Seriously tho he is actually a great person that has a lot to offer and is a seriously nice person that will help you in any way he can whit his vast knowledge and advice

So, I've just retired at 62 - time is on my side and the money hasn't run out yet haha.
I've done plenty of flying during my working life and swimming, no issues there.
Guns, like most shooters I've got a nice collection and I bought my only DG rifle, 375H&H, about 6 months ago, I'm a Sako fan so it had to be a Sako 90 Bavarian. However I'm still trying to get it setup and have been looking for info regarding gun fit. Almost every search led to information on this forum. I'll be posting in the relevant sections soonish.
I've been reloading for a while although I still have plenty to learn. I've worked up some low power rounds for the 375 as an intro to the 'little' DG rifle.
I've got some good Aussie made hunting apparel but might need to add some Africa relevant items.
I've done several solo camping hunts here in Australia, but no DG up north yet.
Unfortunately, the only real barrier is health. The big C is so common these days its hard to avoid but I survived it, just issues with immune suppression/infections etc these days. My haem doc might be able to assist in prep for a visit to Africa sometime. Hopefully not too far down the track.

Thanks to others for the links, I will definitely look into those and read all the hunt reports, so interesting!
@Nails
What part of Australia are you from mate.
Forget buffalo in Australia for a while. Cheaper to hunt Namibia or cull hunt South Africa some great deals here that will get you over there quicker. Plenty of great sponsors on the site that will assist you make your dreams come true.

@Ridge Runner
There y'all go again.
He don't need anything starting with a 4.
He has a nice 375.
Now if'n he don't want to get beat up by the 375 he can always get a 35 Whelen, dang I'll even donate him a can of CFE223 to get him started with proper loads.
Can I interest you in a nice 35 Whelen AI on a M17 action for plains game ha Ha ha.

Thanks everyone, I had a bit of a chuckle reading your replies this morning!

I'm in Brisbane Bob. I watched a few videos last night an yep I have a lot to learn... In one of the early posts, I didn't realise an outfitter was, I thought it was a some sort of specialised tailor hahaha. Now its a cull hunt, welI I know what culling is, but I want to see how its done and will look for some vids on that.
Its all very intersting.

thanks for the warm welcome all!
Rusty

Look at that, two days after arriving here on AH you are learning the lingo.

Welcome to AH.
