Just closed the deal on an addition to my collection. A Ruger #1 Light Sporter in 303 Brit. It will go to Africa some day and serve as my light PG rifle. Maybe leopard if legal.

Wow that is nice, are you going to scope it Doug?

Fine addition to the stable, they are far and few between, I hunted for mine for some time! Lucked out a few months ago and bought 10 bags of Winchester brass for $20 per bag, evidently the 303 Brit brass doesn’t move like creedmore brass. Lol

I had one, great shooter. I loaded it like a .308 Win for velocities. It really liked Sierra Pro Hunter 180 gr flat base bullets with Win760 powder.

Congrats, lovely rifle in a lovely bushveld caliber.
You must see the .303 ammo fly off the shelves every season, its still used a lot.

I have seen exactly one of these in the local gunshop soon after they were released, so some time back now, but a beautiful rifle and such a traditional cartridge make a wonderful pairing.

Thanks everyone! I really just lucked into it browsing on Gunsinternational. I was looking for a 7x57 or 30-06. I saw this and it appeals to my antique sensibilities.

So I have heard horror stories about barrels being over sized to .313-.316, I have loaded only .311 bullets and shot Remington core-lokt and never have had accuracy issues with mine.

I recently picked up a secondhand, but virtually unused, Ruger No1 .303 here in the land downunder. It was already fitted with a Leupold 1.5-5x VariX-III which is a good choice, in my opinion. They really are a lovely little rifle and it makes an interesting companion to my Ruger No1 .405 Winchester. I am guessing that the Ruger No1 .303 is probably a lot more common here, because of Australia's history with the .303 cartridge, than they would be in the USA but they still only come up for sale occasionally - they are either rare or rarely sold by their owners (I think it is the latter case). I still haven't shot mine but hope to do so next week.

I would so much like to have a #1 in 303 British... That is a nice score!

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
