I just picked up my new CZ550 in 30-06. It is unfired, new in the box, and flawless . The mystery is the barrel and stock. It has the twisted hammer forging marks left on the barrel, similar to the Steyr and other European rifles. All metal surfaces have been nicely polished and blued, instead of the dull machined finish I've seen on every other CZ550. The bolt and extractor are polished to a mirror finish.

The stock is a nice grade of walnut with a small bit of figure near the butt, with relatively straight grain in the remainder of the stock. It has a grip cap and forend tip of a reddish wood (possibly red stained walnut) that is very attractive. The checking is exactly as I've seen on every other 550, and the grip cap has the laser engraved CZ logo.

Proof marks on the receiver and barrel confirm it is a CZ factory product. Factory box says CZ550 American Cal. 30-06 with 16 Facet.

I'm a big CZ fan, but I've never seen one like this. Could it possibly be a special run or custom shop order?

Loading a photo gets to 80%,then I get the dreaded "OOPs, we ran into some problems" error message.

Very similar. Straight comb American style stock though, and older style checkering pattern. Forend tip and grip cap are more red than dark ebony brown.

Pics please.

Been trying to load pics for the last 2 hours. Even the smaller file sizes won't load.

Sounds like the ebony edition
Although that term isn't used anywhere on the manual or test target that came with the rifle, I believe you are partially correct. This one may be the Diamond edition. The only pictures I can find on the net are of the Euro style stock with a slight Schnabel tip forend. Very dark ebony tips in the pics I've seen, where mine are a very deep rust red. Also the bolt on the others is engine turned/jeweled, mine is brightly polished.

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe

Hi Walden. Good morning from England, Chris here (The Englishman!) from Croatia. Firstly it was a pleasure to meet you and Michelle - a fellow Sanderson! I have finally joined AH as I enjoy it very much. Glad you enjoyed the hunt and your write up which I read on AR was very good indeed. I am sending on WhatsApp pics from Bojan of some of the animals hunted recently. Take care and best regards. CS.
