Nilgai hunt

I felt fortunate to take a nice one on my first attempt. My friend hunting the same day and ranch, wounded and lost his but paid another TF and took one. I would like to hunt them again

It took us 3 trips using a 300WM. They did not stop or we did not see what we considered a trophy.
I’ve never seen anything in NA that is so skittish. They certainly know what hunters are doing.

Tony Medina is ehhhhh

I’ll stop there.

Lots of Nilgai outfitters… lots. But only a handful of premier areas to hunt them. So choosing the right guy with the right area is crucial to your success rate

I shot mine on the Kenedy Ranch in South Texas. It was one heck of a great hunt. Good hunting on your trip!

If your outfitter falls through, look up Cpt Josh Hartwick with Feathers and Sheds Unlimited; highly recommended. View attachment 606362
I met Josh last month, he seems like a good dude. Professional and competent.

Is it possible to use a double rifle and get under 100 yards foC

Contact Lendell at L&L Hunting adventures. Saw at least 25 bulls on my cow hunt. The Yterria is thick and brushy so you can get with 100 though my cow was at 200.

A nilgai is one of my most wanted North American hunts. However I’m afraid the U.S. buck will kick the crap out of my Canadian Loonie!!! $$$$$

I just got back from hunting at Wilson Whitetail ranch .my wife was hunting for an Axis buck. She held out and shot a velvet 36 inch long 27 inch wide specimen. Every hunt we kept having to work around Nilgai .

They have so many he has a current discount running of $5,500 . My cousin also came and she shot one . LOTS of meat big animal.

Craig Wilson is the owner . I have hunted here several times looking for the ever scarce typical 12 point with no trash .
One day if I’m lucky.
Pick of my cousins bull .

I still haven't pulled the trigger on a nilgai hunt. Even though I originally posted this thread, and thought I'd have been on my way long before this, it hasn't happened. Yet. A couple of life things got in the way, but there are others things too. I have had a tough time getting an operator that is happy with my weapon choice. A .62 flintlock. But I now have one that is OK with it. Also, the cost. $5995 for two days. With travel, license, meat prep etc looking at about $9K........$4500/day. It isn't that I can't afford it, but it is really a choice about what else I COULD do instead. At 4 grand a day a man can hunt bull elephant. Anyway, another man has tentatively agreed to take some firearms in trade for a meat hunt. Not sure yet if this will work out......and Lord knows I have more than I need (firearms that is). So does anyone have a suggestion about non-hunting outdoor adventures to extend the stay in Texas at a reasonable cost? Fishing? Is there any fresh water in Texas? .......FWB

REDFISH AND TROUT IN GALVESTON BAY, THOUGH I DONT REALLY KNOW THE BEST TIMES. THINK THEY ARE CALLED A "BLAST AND CAST"

When you are Nilgai hunting you are 20 miles from some of the best red fish and sea trout fisheries ever!!!!

I second that…fish Baffin Bay, King & Kenedy Ranch shoreline for the absolute best Trophy Trout fishing Texas has to offer. Also, no trip near Kingsville is complete without lunch or dinner at Loyola Beach’s famous King’s Inn for some wonderful family style Texas gulf coast seafood. Warning, No Hats Allowed. lol King Ranch also has nice some various non-hunting ranch tours, birds, history, etc… Head to Port Aransas for quality beach time, restaurants & deep sea fishing. There are a few gulf party boats that go out on 6, 12, 24hr + trips at reasonable prices.

I’d suggest hunting Nilgai in the coldest months, Jan or Feb…just to avoid rattlesnakes & mosquitoes. Depending on what coastal conditions are like, dictate what’s biting in the bays & I’m no expert on this. There are plenty of fishing guides all up and down the coast, try looking online for some out of Kingsville, some are also Nilgai guides. In the past, if I fished in the winter, I usually went offshore for Tuna, Grouper & Snapper. There is also awesome duck hunting opportunities all around that area.

I doubt you are interested in any trades but I was getting ready to list a Sauer 404 3 barrel set in the 10-12 price range if your interested. It has the 404J, 30-06 and 6.5 Creedmoor barrel. Only the 30-06 had been shot and it has 7 rounds through it as I was working on breaking the barrel in. It also has both the synthetic thumbhole stock and somewhere between grade 3-5 non thumbhole stock
