Not impressed

For the record, as a native Texan, he makes us all look like a bunch of redneck idiots too.

After watching a lot of the hunting shows I would say that the vast majority of them are not fit to even be on TV.

100+ yard bow shots, hunters that take bad shots at ranges that they have no business taking are just a couple of dumb things that they do.
I really don't care if they do practice out past 100 yards an animal can move quite a ways even if they are just grazing. I have watched shows where they are sitting at a water tank in a blind and take a shot and you can see that they missed the vitals only to act like they will have a short blood trail.

Then there are the long range rifle hunters which I put in the same boat as the 100 yard archery hunters. I will agree that there are times when you are going to have to take a very long shot, but every shot?

I saw the show with "Pig Man" hunting brush pigs in SA and will have to agree that he made a ass out of himself and that one show turned me off to any of his other shows.

Would love to see it - is it available online to watch anywhere?

I also found that Louis Theroux - African Hunting Holiday; also put a really negative spin on the conservations of hunting, especially in Africa.

A lot of ya'll are sayin' "redneck" like its a bad thing........................;)

As for the state of hunting/fishing shows on T.V. nowadays, I must say that I find most of them a disappointment & they encourage a new group of hunters to try things (such as long range shooting) that most of us who've been doing it for quite a while unconscionable!
I remember watching the ONLY hunting show back in the 60/70's with my grandpa on PBS (public television).......and I must say, I do miss that. Not everyone got a deer, not all the fish were "monsters", and nobody limited out every time they went out. The shows centered more around "how-to" episodes and the cameradary of family & friends enjoying outdoor pursuits.
Now, I am forced to listen to a bunch of heavy metal music montages while watching a pile of ducks fall out of the sky, with a bunch of grinning buffoons standing over a pile of birds at the end of the show.....the message (subliminal as it may be) is that if you ain't killin' a ton of birds, you ain't a 'real' hunter......or if you ain't killin' a 12 point boone & crockett buck every time you go out, you ain't a real "hunter".
If you look closely, however, you will find that most hunting/fishing shows fall into the category of "reality" TV, which as most of us know, ain't real at all........IIRC, there was one individual who was hunting on a licensed shooting preserve (no wonder he took a big buck every time he went out), and another TV "sportsman" was caught hunting waterfowl over a baited field.

Guess I rather spend the time perusing websites such as this, or reading a book, or spend it at the reloading bench.......even reruns of "Starsky & Hutch" are better than what is being forced on the American public in the name of "entertainment".

Not me my friend.... 5th generation Texan, and proud of it. I grew up rural, and now that I am suburbia.... people think I'm the biggest redneck hick there is. However, guess who they call when they need a truck, something fixed or some badass BBQ.
The TV shows are just like ALL hollywood & media, they have to keep taking things to the "next level"... keep it edgy. For me I don't give 2 $hits for that crap. I personally think these high tech sniper style hunting weapon systems are a ridiculous as well. Literally dialing in your scope, windage, etc. for a 1000+ yard shot on elk, kudu, etc. How is that even hunting??? To some it's pathetic, to some it's exciting & to some it has them running out the door or booting up their computer to buy they crap they are using. If so, they did their job..... in yep, the name of entertainment.

From the few minutes of the one episode I watched, "Pigman" obviously selected the right name for his character's very offensive behavior.

As already stated by others here, just exactly what the anti-hunter crowd needs in order to ad fuel to their fire.

On that same note, there are TV shows depicting Alaskans (I live in Alaska) as a bunch of semi-criminal / developmentally disabled melodramatic knuckle dragging booger eaters.

Television is the seedy rotten side of Capitalism, it has evolved into the left wings most successful propaganda delivery mechanism.

Average people readily suck up these TV slop shows as fact.

For "average" people, unfortunately the television is their frame of reference to everything, sadly it is their reality ("average" is nothing more than a palatable word for "moron").

Average is perhaps just a polite word for stupid.

(Incidentally, the fact that I am a Security Guard of course proves that I'm the world's smartest person - LOL).

Well anyway, I see "Pig Man" exactly the same as any other Hollywood film star or character, bending over backwards to put a negative spin on hunting, in hopes of swaying "average" people into becoming haters.

Don't get me wrong I am a Texan born and raised, proud of it, and about as country as they get. That being said I don't feel the need to drive a pickup lifted 4 ft in the air with every ghetto fabulous electro gizmo possible on it. Yes I have 4 wheel drive big trucks but both of which are work trucks. Both of which I use to haul cows, exotics, and guide from. Just irritates the piss out of me when people portray us as a bunch of hillbilly idiots then some jack ass like this furthers the stereo type by feeding off of it.

Well, before you can pass judgement ... you must watch it. I did, I'm done, won't do that again. Certainly not my cup of tea!

I've watched him. He seems to have the worst luck in the world. He plays that up in most times a self deprecating manner. If you've nor watched before it can be taken out of context. I have seen him be very gracious and complimentary to outfitters and people he has come across.

It's the reality TV syndrome. They play to the lowest common denominator. I'm sure they're great guys off the set, but I don't think I could ever hunt with them. Foolishness because you didn't think something through is one thing (and it makes for the great stories all of us tell) but foolishness planned and recorded for the purpose of entertainment makes us all look like buffoons.

He is a total joke and if anyone thinks he makes hunters look good there are crazy. He could be joking and be the best guy in the world but he makes us all look like fools.

The whole hunting show business makes us look stupid for the most part. There are some good shows but that is not the norm anymore. So many try to make it funny that I think it makes it disrepctful in the end.

I know I sure don't look for any of them to be hunting role models to my son. The good thing is he can see them as the fools they are after hunting now for 6 years with me and some good people in the hunting business.

I am not impressed, some time ago. I own quite a few hunting DVD's,but have given up on watching others hunt. Is it entertainment? Yes. Is it NEAT to see others tactics? YES. Is it real..... (pause for effect) NO...

One of my all time favorite dvd's is one of the real tree videos. One of them made the statement about how hard it was to top what they did the year before. (Maybe it was an interview, not a video)... Which got me thinking. They are entertainers, nothing more, nothing less. If you don't like them the there are 9999 other channels to chose from.

I like watching some of this crap, even the taboo of mark sullivan. Some I don't like, SO I DON'T WATCH. ..

I like seeing the new places. Learning new things. I watch most everything about Africa. I can live vicariously through others. That place fascinates me. If it's not a good host I tune them out and take in the scenery. You can always learn something. Even if its what not to do or how not to act.

Absolutely right about the stereotype thing. Try to be an Okie after grapes of wrath. Its hard enough to be an ethical hunter in the eyes of the rest of the world but people like him make it impossible.

Easy now...... As his name says.... He hunts hogs 99% of the time.... By way of fair chase. Because what he did in one of his episodes in africa turned you off... Ok.

You're Coming off a little self righteous.... Might be time to get your own show.

Being open minded it about it.... He's honestly attracting as many or more than he is turning off.

To each there own.... Bottom line he's a TV personality. Let's not be dramatic.
