2023 DSC total revenue: $11.4m
2023 DSC CEO salary: $340k
ProPublica says $323k for 2023…
In the Dallas market, for the level of responsibility held, size of the organization, requirements of the specific position (significant travel, meetings with senior state and federal political leaders, meetings with senior executives in outdoors industry, etc) that frankly is an average compensation package at best…
I belong to a formal roundtable/networking group of CEO’s and business owners in the DFW area… we meet monthly… there are more than 60 CEO’s that meet across a handful of subordinate groups..
$325k would be about middle of the pack in terms of compensation for that group…
Several make substantially more than that..
Like it or hate it, the facts are the facts… that’s average compensation for a Dallas CEO of an organization similar to DSC in terms of size and complexity…
Pay less, and you’ll get a substantially less qualified leader in the organization…
Edited to add: the new DSC CEO left Walther as its CEO to come to DSC and brings significantly more C-suite experience than the last CEO brought when he took the chair…
It wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if he negotiated a comp package a good bit higher than the last CEO… and wouldn’t surprise me if this was less than Walther was paying him…
Would any of us prefer DSC cheap out and try to find someone less experienced and capable in the interest of saving a few bucks?
Nonetheless, while it’s a safe bet the new CEO is being paid more than the last one, it’s also a safe bet that he’s being paid somewhere between the median and 75% range for the position, and is nowhere near the top line in terms of avg comp for people in similar positions…
