Old World American Beauty

Seems like I read somewhere that Bonnie Parker, of the bank robbing / cop killing / domestic terrorist / serial killer duo, “Bonnie & Clyde” favored a Remington Model-11, in 20 gauge.
It was sawed short at both ends.
Her “pet name” for it was “The Whippit”.

Also, somewhere within some foggy corner of my old prune faced memory, it seems like I read in Charles Askins’ book, “Unrepentant Sinner” that, he also favored the Model 11 Remington for night fighting, when he was confronting smugglers along the USA - Mexico border.
He was one of the first members of the then newly formed US Border Patrol (he was born in 1907).

He put a wrap of white tape around the muzzle so he could see it better in the moonlight, while shooting at said adversaries.
I believe he wrote that eventually he had a Gunsmith make and install a longer tube magazine on this shotgun.
Perhaps it was the first of an enduring trend with Law Enforcement shotgun magazines.
When loaded with 00-Buckshot this arrangement evidently was very effective for “night time work”.

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.
