I am heading back to Africa in 2025 and am considering taking my .375H&H as my "light" rifle for plains game and my .458 Lott for buffalo and giraffe. I am entirely comfortable shooting both rifles and they are accurate. In the past I have used the 300g TSX with satisfaction but as I am taking my .458 for the heavy lifting, I am considering dropping bullet weight for the PG - impala, kudu, zebra, gemsbok.
Has anyone used the 250g TTSX in anger on PG and if so how did they perform? If you can give me an idea of muzzle velocity and range that you took game at this would be appreciated!

I have not used the 300 gr TSX but I have used the 250 gr TTSX. I have not chronographed the load but it’s 77 gr of RL15 supposed to be 2850 fps. It’s the most accurate load in that rifle by far but I had some irregular performance on game. I took 1 duiker, 5 warthogs, 1 lechwe, 1 eland. 2 kudu, 2 reedbuck, 1 , and 1 impala with them on that safari from 25 to 330 yards. I have no explanation but on a perfect shoulder shot on impala at 200 yards it only made a flesh wound and required follow up that really shook my confidence in the bullet. It killed the eland but all petals broke off at about 25 yards which it isn’t designed to do. However, everything except the impala died quickly like it’s supposed to. If I was to look for a flatter shooting 375 bullet I think I’d opt for 270 gr TSX next time or maybe a cutting edge or hammer bullet.

I am going down a similar path as you SRvet. I love the 300 grain Swift A-Frame in my 375 but want a better option for smaller game with the 375. Recently, I have been shooting the 250 TTSX. I have loaded it with Varget and am getting 2811fps. It shoots 5” higher than the 300 grain Swift with no change in windage. (100 yards) However after doing a bit of research I am now considering trying Hammer and Cutting Edge bullets since they are designed to shed their petals for a larger wound channel and more frequent DRT’s. I think that whatever choice you make will work well in bushveld conditions with shots placed in the vitals.

That’s been my experience as well. My 250 gr TTSXs shoot 6” above the 300 gr swifts at 100 yards.

I’ve not used lighter TSX, but I did use [emoji6][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]gr partitions in my [emoji[emoji6]][emoji6] H&H on a PG hunt years ago… they worked absolutely perfectly against everything hunted from impala to wildebeest… shots weren’t particularly long (all under [emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]])… I don’t recall the exact muzzle velocity.. but I think they were loaded around [emoji[emoji6]][emoji6][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]-[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]ish…

Something weird happened to your post @mdwest
Interested to hear your bullet grain and velocities but some weird emoji jibberish took over

Not sure if everyone sees it this way but this is how your post comes across for me. It’s been happening with posts from a few members lately not sure why.

Try the 270 grain LRX.

I know they can be accurate w/Varget, would love to hear the rest of the hunting reports.

It's odd... There is VERY little info on this forum on the LRX

try searching for it.

I’ve used them in Africa and Alaska with good results.

Load the 250gr TTSX for plains game.
The TSX is a fantastic bullet for large plains game like wildebeest, kudu etc. that have enough body mass for the bullet to do its best work.
However, I’ve seen many delayed kills on smaller game with them.

The TTSX opens faster for small game, and will still penetrate deeply enough on large species to either exit, or stop against the far side.
It’s the best of both…

I like the 270 gr Barnes x, plenty of velocity when loaded right and not so much impact change. My experience has been that anything with a polymer tip is a bit more rapidly expanding, sometime they don’t feed right as well depending on the rifle. Call me old school but I’ve never taken two guns on safari, and whatever I’m carrying I’m going to shoot at everything. I walk a lot though so carrying two rifles on a long hike and managing 2 types of ammo doesn’t work for me.

I shoot the 300g TSX for Buffalo in my 375 and for plains game I switch over and shoot the 300g TSX. Maybe from another pocket? IDK. Never saw a reason to change.

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?

Do you have any cull hunts available? 7 days, daily rate plus per animal price?
