Osa&Martin in Africa film

The Commentary is quite funny from today's perspective. When describing the wildlife, every phrase is about killing, murderous, dangerous, etc.

Thanks for sharing @PerH !

I was in Rochester last summer and visited the George Eastman House/ Museum. Eastman was founder of Kodak. When I walked into his house I was greeted by a large bull elephant and many of his taxidermy trophies from hunting in Africa. I was surprised to learn he hunted East Africa twice, 1925 and 1928 with Philip Percival as PH and Osa and Martin Johnson.

More film from Osa and Martin’s hunt

Yes, in London on a business trip I visited an old book store. Asked if they had any books on hunting Africa and they said maybe. After a short search they handed me a book and it is a published for family only by George Eastman about their hunting trip. A great book.

My early quest, of anything African Safaris, about 25 years ago, started in the Spartanburg, SC main public library, next door to my office, I found “I Married Adventure “ by Osa Johnson.

I had no idea of their story.
I renewed 2 times just to read and absorb the stories again.

I found it interesting that George Eastman helped finance some safari work, and specifically went to East Africa to photograph the magnificent wilderness, the people, majestic wildlife, and hunt.
The dawn of photography, to share images of the world and nature has always fascinated me.

Thanks sharing a great story.

My co worker was looking for old maps of Cambodia because that is where his wife is from. Wanted them for the historical info for his kids. Fortunately he was able to find them there.

On another visit I found a 1920’s something of the complete works of William Shakespeare. Inside was a playing card size newspaper clipping from 1933 I think of a man just released from plotting to kill Adolf Hitler. My daughter loaned the book to her high school freshman English teacher and that was the last we found it.

On our aircraft we had the former ambassador to London. I showed him the clipping and he truly remembered it.

Fascinating learning from these individuals the history of.

Also on a trip to Anchorage had the unbelievable opportunity to hold OSA’s double Westly Richards that was being sold from an estate and already had a deposit on it. If I remember right (2005 or so) the price was $150,000+.

I bought the DVD's I married adventure years ago, and they were so deteriorated you couldn't watch them.

glad to see this out.

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
Ready for the hunt with HTK Safaris
