The open border has destabilized much of Central and even South America.

Pardon my ignorance, it is not my itention to steer the pot. I've been marginally following immigration issue problem only since Trumps term in the office.
The question is following:
I understand the problem but can anybody shed some light how and when this problem started? Root causes and beginnings?

I am one and have said so before. If you're a Star Trek fan (or even familiar), this feels very much like a Kobiashi Maru. If you're not, well, I just sounded like a big fat nerd.

It comes down to this for me. I have said for months now I won't vote for Trump a third time. I do not believe it's a certainty he can recreate the same policy magic that he did in the term he did serve. In fact, I am more convinced daily that's it's virtually impossible he can catch lightning in a bottle a second time because he has done so much to divide so many since he was in office. Put another way, I have just about as much fear about how Trump would be in office a second time as I do for the idea of Biden being there again. I cannot and will not vote for someone I believe does not represent what I believe in, would likely be ineffective, and could quite possibly be damaging to our country. (Yes, I know that's true of Biden as well.)

To answer your other question - yes on other candidates. For a long time I thought maybe DeSantis could be the guy, and I would vote for him. Of late, I'm happy enough to entertain the idea it could be Haley. My vote will not be going to either Biden or Trump. Neither batch of lemmings, nor the cliffs they are hell-bent on racing towards, appeals to me in the least.

Pretty sure no one can count Chris Christi as a real candidate. His only goal “Get rid of Trump”…….. no platform, no ideas, nothing.

Christi has less of a chance of winning the Republican ticket than Pete Buttigieg if he were vying for it...

He's just running for the purpose of making a ton of money (leftover campaign contributions) and to try to see if he can pedal some influence on whoever does get the nomination (if its not Trump)..

His shot at the throne ended with his failed campaign in 2016.. He'll never get any significant traction ever again..

I’m not trying to be a 2016 Hillary supporter, but why would an independent voter go for a Dem this year? I know the country is full of blue-haired morons, but at some point they would need to look out for their own hide.

I truthfully don't believe Trump can win without the support and vote from the independents. I don't believe he is going to get the same number of votes as he did last election. I'm sure Brandon will have his share of Dems who will not vote for him as well, but I can assure you that they will not vote for Trump either.

If the Dems follow the same game plan as they did during the last election, we will lose. The Dems have the vote harvesting game down to a science, and unless we do the same, we are doomed.

Unfortunately, Trump has not learned to keep his mouth shut, and he continues to distance possible voters because of what he continues to say. All he has to do is follow the script written for him.

I will vote for him, because I do not want the other side in the White House, but I wished we had someone better, and as a Nation we can do better.

It amazes me that in a country with 330M residents.. Roughly 175M over the age of 35 and eligible to run for POTUS (born in the US, not a felon, etc etc).. That this is the absolute best we can do..

I'm part of the "conservative" (I used to be a Republican) base that may not even vote - or vote third party, if Trump is the nominee. MY SWAG is Trump will likely loose again, and give the house back to the liberals again - even if he does win.

The campaign - by whomever the Democrat nominee may eventually be - has not even started yet. It will be ugly.

Anything they can fabricate to keep him out of office. I think that in the end all their attempts will all blow over and he will be exonerated. It might be worth it for him to be reelected just to see him raise hell with all those who have been after him.

His base can’t elect him. He needs independents and republicans like me who are thoroughly unenthusiastic about him or his candidacy. I am hardly alone in the Republican Party. I wouldn’t trust him to manage any business for which I was responsible and have no intention of hiring him to run my country.

Absolutely Correct! However, do we have to vote for President Trump. There are many polls saying he is ahead but no delegates have been assigned. Look at the number of conservative voters just on this thread that are not happy with him. Can we find another person that would promote a conservative platform and bring all Republicans to the voting booth/mailbox/how ever we do it now days.

IIRC, the Kobayashi Maru scenario was an un-solvable paradox exam problem at Star Fleet Academy that then cadet JT Kirk solved by rigging the test. The only one to ever defeat the paradox..... by not having to solve it!

Then the Trump loyalists might ought to think that through shouldn’t they? I and a lot of people like me simply will not support him again. Yes, I have no doubt that he may not be convicted on any number of charges, but that is not the same as exoneration.
