Politics

Just home for a quick restocking of my camp.....been on an elk hunt for 10 days and am going back soon.........and last night got my first detailed look at the election results. LMAO at the idiotics of the dems and the result it brought. Anyway, there is a TV series entitled "The Diplomate" that portrays a lot of back channel negotiations in government. One of the characters plays an ambassador who says "diplomacy never works. You find new ways to arrive at the word 'no' over and over again. Diplomacy never works. Until it does, and wars are ended. Talk to everybody; your enemies, your adversaries, even the terrorists. Talk". I see that Pres Trump has already started to talk with World leaders. Something Joe and The Toe were too arrogant to attempt. Refueled and re-invigorated, I am headed back to the Montana-Idaho border for elk. Smiling all the way.............stay free........................FWB
Good hunting!

McConnell spent way too much money on Hogan who had no real chance and snubbed the Trump candidates. One of the reasons it would be good to get Scott into the position over Thune or Cornyn who would probably do the same.

Scott would be my choice as well, but ........

Mark Robinson was propelled to a political status he was never meant for. I lived outside Greensboro and remember when the famous meeting happened that thrust him into spotlight.
It was unfortunate that Dan Forest didn't beat Cooper in '20, but then again NC has only had 1 GOP governor in how many decades?

NC voting blue for Gov and red for president is the norm of late, hopefully the latter continues this year.
You called it for 2024.

Trump beat Harris by 188K votes while Robinson lost to Stein by 813K votes here in North Carolina.

Unfortunately, Robinson and his stance on abortion hurt down ticket candidates like Hal Weatherman for Lt Gov, really hurt Dan Bishop for AG against Jackson, and was the reason the Supreme Court seat was so close. I didn't see any ads for Rachel Hunt (D) for Lt Gov but every other ad in the Governor, AG, and Supreme Court race featured Robinson's off the wall comments about abortion.

I don't want to say race had anything to do with it but Stein's mantra of "Mark Robinson Must Never Become Governor" left me saying, "Why? Because he's black?"

To quote Reagan - "The person who agrees with you 80 percent of the time is a friend and an ally - not a 20 percent traitor."

LOL.. Too bad the majority of republican leadership didn't heed Reagan's advice in 2016 in regard to Trump...

Taking nothing away from Reagan, that quote was applicable in a completely different political climate than what we have endured in the last 16 years... In today's America, the 20% we disagree upon is significantly more important than it was before... When that 20% of our "disagreements" are comprised of hateful rhetoric, incitement of violence, total disregard for the Constitution, and weaponizing U.S. institutions for the purpose of destroying those who do not share the same political ideologies, the 80% of agreement is practically meaningless...

Pre-Trump, bipartisan compromise was possible before the other side's ideologies had gone completely insane... This most recent defeat will not change a thing... They will not reflect, and they will not change... They are doubling down on their losses and the hateful rhetoric just as strong as before... Our only hope is withholding power from their grasp...

As far as the RINO's, Never-Trumper's, and Anti-Trumpers go, they also need to look in the mirror just like the dems, and reflect on the overwhelming mandate that was just handed down by the American people for the second time... They wounded this country badly and pissed away a golden opportunity because they failed to respect Trump's first mandate of the people in 2016... I can only hope that they are capable of reflecting on past mistakes and put county first this time around...

he made many mistakes in his first 2 years as president, effectively not taking advantage of having control of all 3 branches

Brent,

I'm not sure Trump could have done much more differently in trying to work with his own party. If you recall, republican leadership rejected him, not the other way around... As I said above, I truly hope they don't piss away a second opportunity to get actual legislation passed instead of forcing him to use EO's exclusively... We won't get a third...!

Anti Trump FEMA supervisor relieved of duty

Relieved of duty, hmm, well it's better than being left in duty. But she should've been fired which to my understanding is virtually impossible to do in the Fed Gov't. So now I guess she'll earn her money playing solitaire and surfing the web all day.

In response to the Reagan "80% - 20%" quotes, I believe we are in a more 60% - 30% - 10% political scene today. There is a 30% that might be reached with reasonable, measured negotiations, but there is a 10% that cannot be reasoned or even communicated with. The only thing they understand is a hammer tied to funding. They are a very loud, motivated minority. We have a government now that has a real chance to pass healing, positive change without shoving legislation down the throat of the 30%. Then we can have real change in this nation. The future can be bright and that is the hope I cling to.

Just a hypothetical question here, but have you ever seen people overreact so hysterically to a decision that it served as proof that the right decision had been made?

You know, hypothetically speaking... ;-)
You mean like January 6th? There are idiots on both sides.

On the way back south from my buffalo hunt in the Caprivi almost ten years ago - I and my young PH (who was as avid a military history student as me) spent the better part of a day exploring the ruins of Buffalo Camp. Probably the most poignant part of our exploration was the vast cemetery. The Namibian Government has made no attempt to maintain it, and it has gone back to the bush. As one would expect the "men with no names" or "the terrible ones" of 32 Battalion had crosses only marked by a number.

The company barracks areas had long since been picked to their foundations for usable wood, but the stone walls remained of the headquarters, hospital, and officer quarters.

It was interesting to stand on what was likely once Breytenbach's patio staring at buffalo and hippo grazing in the marshes along the river and to wonder whose shades shared the view with us. They were men who deserve better than to be forgotten.

To take a quick break from the US election victory laps on this thread.

I just saw a video on Facebook that building is under way at Camp Buffalo turning the area into a campsite, and restoring the cemetery. This is being done by private contractors and it will hopefully be open to the public from March 2025.

I am definitely going to visit after wrapping up a hunt, and seeing the clients off at Vic falls in June.

In Trump's defense, most of the mistakes were unintentional on his part. Much of which involved choosing the wrong people.

That's true. Hogan got beat by 10%

She probably already does that during her day job anyway.

No the 20% wasn’t less important then. You’re just caught up in the rhetoric now or were too young then to realize it. Soviet Union evil empire, East\West Germany, Strategic Defense Initiative, nuclear weapons threats, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Libya, hostages, assassination attempts, runaway interest rates and inflation, etc… just as busy and troublesome as now. Sam Donaldson tearing into Reagan every chance he got, etc…

Why guys like you would rather fight with other republicans than fight the democrats is beyond me.

LOL. 1980’s or 2020’s, last I looked at that whole math thing, Trump still needs the votes - RINOs and all - to accomplish any legislation. But by all means let’s stay focused on that circular firing squad, because we are so much more self righteous embracing political idiocy.

So many people on both sides live in an echo chamber made of glass; they protect these chambers by throwing rocks at anyone who dares even politely knock at the door and question their reasoning.

However, there are some on the left who are thinly vailed anarchists that know they can bring on rapid population drops by increasing the market price of foods by putting such restrictions on farming.

These people know that raising the price of grain 20% in the world market can cause famine in certain parts of the world; and nothing destabilizes any culture faster than quick set famine.

As an example - The Netherlands, an agricultural powerhouse; crippled by the very regulations and people I speak of. Thus the food insecure people of the world pay with higher prices.

The upper echelon of these anarchists are highly educated and manipulate the useful idiots such as “just stop oil” and allow them to do the dirty work and often prison time.
