There is also some misinformation out there, I heard a talking head last night complaining about USFWS spending money on a marsh in New Mexico (I think) to improve habitat for Mexican ducks. If it was USFWS money , it was almost 100% certain money derived from migratory bird hunting stamp money not tax money. I guess you can call it tax money for the “privilege” to hunt migratory birds.
Its supposedly a pause so that the new administration can review and then decide if it wants to approve, etc moving forward..
the problem as I understand it is multi-faceted.. the Biden Administration tried to rush tons and tons of spending out the door at the last minute... much of which flies directly in the face of what Trump has said he intends, and what the American people have been pretty clear they want..
but.. there are also programs in place all over the globe that have been around for a very long time, that cant (or shouldn't) just have a "stop work" applied to them.. it will actually cost more money to halt activities, partially demobilize (or just have resources and assets sitting around unutilized), then remobilize and have to get momentum going again, and/or have to replace personnel because the old personnel went on and found other work or other projects during the pause.. then have to train those people up, get them to be effective, etc..etc..
some of the programs impacted by this I'd offer a "who cares?"... if we've already thrown a few million into the toilet on some completely valueless "study" or action, Im all for stopping throwing good money after bad.. (some day I should relay a story about a road being funded by the World Bank and the US State Dept in Kenya back in the 90's that literally started and stopped in the middle of nowhere.. it didn't connect any towns or villages.. didn't connect or cross any waterways or market areas.. didn't bring goods to market.. didn't take goods to people, etc..etc.. but we'd put millions of dollars into the project.. and never bothered to do a job site visit.. because someone told DOS it was a good idea)..
But some of the programs, as
@Red Leg mentioned impact peoples lives, health, welfare, etc.. and are legitimately vital (even if they are poorly managed, poorly executed, etc)... just throwing on the brakes is very short sighted.. and might cost more money and harm more people than expected or intended...
