What’s going on in South Africa ? A friend just told me he postponed his safari this summer for a year.

If I was a young man considering serving in the armed forces, I wouldn't be thinking of infantry having seen these tactics evolve. This cannot be good for infantry recruitment in any army right now.
Agreed. Offensive weapons and tactics appear to be outpacing defensive capabilities.
Something some of the membership here might appreciate is that the most effective weapon against these things (though not at night), seems to be a cool head and good wing shot armed with a 3-inch magnum 12 gauge semi-auto. During WWII many logistics trucks were armed with .50 cal MGs for air defense. The UA is sending an "air defense" gunner along armed with a shotgun and extended mag.

This guy, Enoch Burke, was fired from his teaching job, Christian school, jailed and now his bank account frozen in Ireland for not affirming the lunatic transgender theory. Seems Ireland has officially fallen as well.

What genius thought it would be a good idea to wrongly jail and persecute and Irish Christian for sticking to his beliefs ? If only there was a catchy slogan for ridding Ireland of tyrants and dictators.

Was just thinking what a truly noble cause to motivate a modern Fenian movement.

I was raised by a protestant mother born and raised in Belfast, N. Ireland. I still have extended family there, mostly just cousins and children of those cousins. I spent numerous summers there starting sometime in the early 70's. I was well exposed to "The Troubles" as my family members would say.

As a kid and eventually a teen ager visiting there, I just never quite got it. As time went by and I had made my last trip there as I was finishing high school and on with life, I mostly lost contact with my cousins. Only seeing my grandmother and uncles occasionally. Those older members are all gone but for one uncle.

But through WhatsApp and Facebook I've reconnected with those cousins. And near as I can tell, they in many ways, felt the same way. They simply got fed up with this fight between fellow Irishmen. And of course peace finally did come to the island.

By happenstance I live not far from an Intel fab, which also has a fab in Ireland. Quite often employees from Ireland come here to AZ on part time assignments to work in the fab here. As such I've met a few of them. Once again, as near as I can tell, these residents of Ireland (vs N. Ireland) seemed to have reached the same point.

It's been a long time since I was over there, but I don't think there actually is that many that would want to take up arms against their northern cousins anymore. Funny what happens when a countries economy goes from really shitty to much better.

My family line is also Irish I’m only a third generation Canadian. Before that my line goes back to the Norman conquest.like you I also have a crop of cousins on the island and While I don’t doubt what you say is true I can tell you from experience that there are some especially when in their cups proud of the actions they’ve taken and still spouting off about “the cause” Regardless what @Red Leg and I were discussing was meant mostly in jest.

I didn't take it personally, if a bit crass. I also don't doubt there are those who would like to take the fight up again. However, that part about the economy. In the 70's and 80's it was simply horrible especially in the south. N. Ireland's economy wasn't just gangbusters either, but it was better. But now, the economy in Ireland is quite strong and it seems better than in N. Ireland. My point being is that I think the majority are enjoying life much better than some 40+ odd years ago and as such don't want to go back to those times.

From my understanding and you would likely have a better grasp on it and probably first hand experience. The biggest positive factor was the integrating of the neighbourhoods. The younger generations are not as divided and the communities are not segregated by religion and economic classes such as they were. The ones I have heard spout off about the troubles are all into there 70s now. Honestly not sure how much of it was believable anyway my family mostly hails from limerick and Clare which is a long way from Belfast.

Agree. Some of my protestant cousins have actually dared to marry Catholics, much to the chagrin of their parents. One of my uncles never married. The woman he was most close to marrying was Catholic and it was for that reason he broke it off.

I personally don't ascribe to Catholic teachings, but I also don't let that impede being friends with Catholic people either. It's similar to not letting myself be so caught up in having a different opinion on politics than Democrats, yet there are those that I call friends. My mother as anti-Catholic church as she was, to her credit did not hate Catholic people, and in fact had several close Catholic friends.

Just my opinion, but amongst my mother and her family, while they had their disagreements with Catholic teachings, what concerned them far more was having the Pope as a sort of de facto ruler.

So the differences between Irish Catholics and the Protestants that primarily lived in the norther part of the country weren't really so much about church doctrine as much as in the end they really were still political in nature.

Watching that video about the Irish school teacher it seems quite clear church doctrine, Catholic or Protestant has much less influence on the island than what it once did.

lunatic transgender theory
Well, we live in strange times. But it has to be noted.
If "officially" you are pro transgender, pro lgbt, extreme pro eco, pro DEI, then you are also pro democratic, pro west and eventually anti Putin. That is how modern MSM narrative is formed.
It is hard to understand, because those opposite things are apparently not related (from transgender to Anti Putin).

My theory, are the nation(al) symbols, that unite population are here at work.
WHat are the national symbols and core values? And basically, those come from history.

For example - America has: Alamo, Davy Crocket, Vietnam memorial, Mount Rushmore, civil war, American revolution, John Wayne, Seargant York, George Washington, Bill of rights, Rough riders, etc... It is one history, leading the nation to this point of time.

What does Europe have?
Individual proud European nations fought the wars between each other since Ancient Greece, with history of 2000 years of wars.
This created European history, modern states, and their national identities, with strongly integrated culture, moral and ethics that streamed from various Christian religions. Mainly: Roman Catholics, Orthodox, Protestants which are very similar in their core values and ethics.
This also created the moral and nucleus of traditional society, a family (till modern times).

Now, enter EU. 30 years ago.
What symbols can EU offer to unite all nations? Well, religion, obviously not. Those are different religions, and new religions are also welcome. And they cannot favor one against any other.

Joint history, heroes, famous battles?
Well, nobody fought and died for EU, 50 years, 100 years, or 200 hundred years ago? EU does not have heroes.
So, what we all jointly have? EU must invent new values and new symbols. Integrate them in state system and services and national and international sports.
You guessed: lgbt, transgender, and extreme pro eco ideas, that should result in "unite, unite, Europe". Symbols that first come to mind:
Greta Thurnberg, sponsored, challenged kid, skipping the school symbol of eco fight, "last super" ridicule show on opening the Paris Olympics, Nemo binary person, winning Eurovision contest, continue the list, you name others.... Such symbols and values are integrated also in various services like police or army who traditionally were meritocratic, now a bit less then that... yes DEI polices are in force.

The more this narrative becomes affirmed in MSM, more basic nucleus of society of traditional values and ethics become eroded. This in constant, erodes the society, and more importantly - basic family.
The result in demographics is already visible. Negative birth rate, divorces in increase, etc

In EU, PM Orban (Hungary) is fighting against this. In Germany AFD party, painted as extreme right, not winning the national elections, but won elections entirely in eastern Germany, which could create possible future political regional divisions within that country, Le Pen in France, etc... Those are some known examples, so far. But they are becoming louder in public space.

In US, president Trump started his fight against all this - but historically and culturally USA is one society, with one history, and with his efforts will maybe be easier to achieve goals, European history is completely different thing, with individual nations identities and cultures. If this turns to national political battles (Of Hungarian Orban model), EU will be in problem.

Also, a big difference between EU and USA: USA leadership is democratically elected. EC, is non elected governing body of EU. President Trump has easier job, US Presidency has credibility.

You forgot america has Captain USA and Cap’n Crunch.

Your historical review sort of lacks the mortar between the bricks.

Well, fictional heroes can be added as well. UK has James Bond, and Sherlock Holmes, both of them have museums, and are part of cultural heritage.
