Nuclear winter would be caused by the significant amounts of dust and smoke pushed into the atmosphere by a full scale nuclear war.
Some say a nuclear winter could last as long as 20 years?
Plant life would soon die off, followed by animal life, and then humans.
Not even the most hardcore prepper would have 20 years worth of food and supplies in a facility. It would be difficult, or nearly impossible, for even the toughest individual to survive.

How various nukes work and the effects of them is a lot more complex than the obvious.

Anyway, I had the opportunity once to stand next to a de-commissioned MK 41 nuke. About 13 ft long, 4 ft diameter. The highest yield weapon the US ever had… carried on, IIRC, B52s and B47s. Now, generally much more versatile and smaller yield nukes deliverable on various platforms. I was forever impressed by that… still can’t fathom the relatively small size of something that, when operational, had a 25 megaton yield!

The other spooky potential is rogue use of a dirty nuke. Those don’t even have to work as a nuke to really cause a huge problem. Just pack a bunch of radioactive crap around an explosive core of any kind and touch it off.

Condescending much? Just because I haven't smoked the hookah in every souk doesn't mean I am uninformed. I dare say I could hold my own.

I agree on their aspirations, ergo doing something about it now. Let's agree to be honest with each other, you get sanctions and you get sanctions. The screw has not even begun to get tightened.

No shit. They are all an axis of evil. But combined BRICS has the might of a third rate global power. China and Russia are the dominant players there and they have their hands full and/or don't or won't come to Iran's assistance.

100%
As an aside, Turkey is the Jeckle and Hide of the world. They will play their hand as they see fit and according to which way the wind blows. (For as long as they can get away with it)

.
I never said you are not informed but I don't agree on some subjects and I'll list them:

-Do you really believe any kind of tightened sanctions will have any more effect on Iran when they can buy and sell anything with Brics countries?

-Combined Brics if they can get their shit together has the power of a very powerful country and not third rate.
You are talking about India, China and to some extend Russia even after their beatdown.

-Do you realize if we engage directly with Iran hundred thousands of people will die in Israel and World economy will spiral into chaos?

-I agree on Turkey %100 but I would do the same if I were them and they don't like Arabs over there.

Gamma ray bursts from outer space could also be a global killer
Google the 1859 Carrington Event. If this happened today it would kill billions and send humans back to the Stone Age.

A repeat of this phenomenon has a 100% probability, in a time frame of let’s say 2-300 years. It is unfortunate that so very little of our electric grid would be resistant to this.

And technically @CoElkHunter, indirectly, it would bring the world population to pre-1900 levels. So back below 1 billion I gather.

As far as natural disasters go, this is one that worries me.

Yes, it’s the one that worries me the most too. However, it could really happen at any time and they’res nothing we can really do about it except spend trillions hardening Worldwide electric grids NOW, which won’t happen.

On April 21, 2023, a coronal mass ejection (CME) erupted from the sun, spewing out a burst of plasma that raced toward Earth at nearly two million miles per hour and generated a severe geomagnetic storm (level 4 out of 5 on NOAA's space weather G- scale) at 3:26 p.m. EDT on April 23.

There have been dozens of large CMEs since 1859
One knocked power out in Canada for 9 hrs.

One caused Space X satellites to slow due to increased drag, re enter our atmosphere and burn up.

I remember the warnings last year that some major CMEs were headed our way but unfortunately they still cannot predict how severe they are until it’s very close and of course too late
Luckily the 2023 CME‘s did not cause too much damage

Not a fan of Mullins, due to his redneck Senate hearing style when he challenged a Union leader to fight in the hearing room. But from what I've read, Mullins grew up working for his dad's plumbing business and then took it over after his dad's death. Mullins grew the business and then sold it for a substantial amount of money. Good for him! Given the plumbing background, he probably knows about water meters and the trends in the industry and nation.

Mullin definitely doesn't always exhibit endearing behavior. A plumbers son from a rural community who is the only member of the senate without a college degree. He built up his fathers plumbing company and sold it out for good money. He has also invested extremely well. As far as I know, all of his investments are above board, regardless of what is insinuated about him in the press. Highschool grad with a net worth of $50-100m, before he is 50 years old and a little rough around the collar. An endearing quality I see in Mullin is he certainly seems to have the best interest of the average Oklahoman and American at the top of his agenda. He certainly is more Andrew Jackson that DC insider.

Mark and I are the same age. I like what I know of him. I used to have family where he is from. We are both born and raised in Oklahoma. Last time I talked to him was about 10 years ago. Mark went to OSU from what I remember. We are also both card carrying Cherokee Indians.
One thing I do know is he has worked hard for what he has and he loves God and his family! He does have the best interest of the average working Oklahoman and American at the top of his agenda like Wheels stated.

Mark didn’t start the scene at the Senate hearing but he would have easily finished it. I was proud of Mark for standing up to that jerk.

He is not a conservative. What middle do you anticipate he will tack toward.

I do agree the Dems have a problem and Newsome is likely their best solution.
I agree he is not a conservative, he's a populist. However, in his first term put forward conservative answers to problems. He is already trying to tack to the middle on abortion, he has proposed nationwide exceptions (rape, incest) but is taking some blowback from the hard social right. I suspect after he has locked up the primary, we will see conservative economic policy and more liberal on social issues that are important to the soccer moms where he does poorly.

I have a somewhat morbid fascination with Armageddon. Lol.

Wow, fun times. Makes one want to live underground like a groundhog. I think I'd prefer being killed by an asteroid.

That's the easy way out, while Iran just keeps chipping away at everyone for years to come.
What will we see when Iran has a functional nuclear tipped missile or 3?

Maybe the U.S can come up with it's own proxies in the region to make attacks on Iran, without direct involvement or responsibility?

I would bet they if Iran had a functional nuclear bomb, it would not be used on Israel. In Jerusalem sitting on top of the Temple Mound is Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa Mosque both the third holist site in Islam. Doubtful the Iranians would risk destroying the Dome.

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.

Hello:
I’ll take the .375 Whitworth for $1,150 if the deal falls through.
Thanks .
