The coach, yeah, you didn't want any of that! The principal, well, after helping him avoid the game warden down on the river where the principal was illegally running hoop nets--we had a get out of jail free card....

Yep, all our coaches had them, paddles with holes. Many had names like “Board of Education”, etc. I also remember Dad’s belt. Even my grandma had a willow switch. Military discipline was a completely different animal designed for adults ;)

The problem started when the government took away the rights of a parent to discipline their child. I remember my son at 7 years of age telling me that if I spanked him, he would call the police. This was 33 years ago. I remember giving him an extra ass whooping for what he said, and I called the police. The police officer played along with me, and said he was going to take him and lock him up for misbehaving. That little sh*t about sh*t his pants, and guess what? The last time he tried to play that card with me.

Parents must be parents at home and not depend on the schools to discipline their kids. Also, parent must take responsibility for the actions of their kids and accept that their child is not a saint. My wife works at a pre-school, and it's amazing how many parents are shocked when they find out their kids misbehaved, and they claim, "they don't do that or act like that at home". BS!!!!

TV shows, internet, phones, tablets, are all contributors to the decay of children. How many times you'll see a 2-year-old on a stroller with mom's or dad's phone?

How many on here remember the Paddle with the holes the principles used on our asses? Well, here we are, and I believe we turned out ok after all. Oh, and don't get me started on Catholic school discipline. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
Many seem to have lost sight of the great truths written in "Lord of the Flies."

We all want to think of our kids as angelic, but the vast majority of them simply aren't. They're savage, self-absorbed hunks of meat that it's our job as responsible, civilized adults to replicate in them what our parents replicated in us.

My kids were well-behaved because we demanded and expected it of them.

Amen! One of my teachers in junior high asked me to make a paddle for him. I gladly accepted and made a really nice paddle with holes in it, stained and varnished. I even pit a leather thong on the end of the handle so he could hang it up. I was in 8th grade.
Guess who got the first seat with it? Yours truly after getting a smart mouth one day in class. Never acted out again in his class. Corporal punishment needs to come back into the schools.

Yeah, our school had a heavy leather paddle with holes drilled in it. Experience that once and you will go out of your way to avoid it in the future.

At my HS, the last thing you wanted was to be sent to Brother John's office.

My HS went from 8th to 12th grades. I had Brother Carl for 8th grade English. He smacked me in the back of the head once for behaving like a typical 13 yo. That smack saw me through another 4 and a half years of not needing to be hit again.

Exactly the same, my daughter told me that when she was 9 years old.
In school they provided her "special number" she could always call for this. They teach wrong things.

Modern society and social networks in many ways destroy the nucleus of this very same society: a family.
Divorce: welcome, just follow celebrities.
Same sex marriage (child-non-productive) welcomed, and supported and advertised. just follow celebrities.
Peter Pan syndrome - supported, get married as late as possible. Be independent (means - single). Follow celebrities.

This is going nowhere.

As a result we have demographic decline and facing demographic catastrophy:

If you want to know how bad it is in public schools, ASK A SUBSTITUTE TEACHER. My stepmother taught as a sub for years. She had been called every name in the book, out loud, in class. One girl called her "you old white bitch." Classes would be run by the lowest common denominator bullies if a sub allowed it--and nothing would get done in class. Yet teachers get blamed if kids aren't learning.

Of course, kids have to make it in the front door of the school first! When I would drop my daughter off at Skyline HS (typical Chinese fire drill) the only real way out of the traffic nightmare was to go down the alley behind a medical clinic. Fifty or more kids would be walking down same alley, only headed to the DART bus stop for a day on the town, HAVING NEVER EVEN MADE IT INTO THE BUILDING AFTER THEIR PARENTS DROPPED THEM OFF! Imagine the parents' surprise when truant officers would tell them their kids had missed school...."but I KNOW I dropped them off at the front door." This happened every single day, so I asked the truant office why they didn't post someone in said alley. They said they couldn't do that. I asked--'Oh will it be easier to find them later when you could find them all in 30 min. in the alley?"

Of course, parents could also take responsibility for their children and not allow them on social media until they have the appropriate level of maturity to deal with it. I know, it’s a crazy idea.

Taking personal responsibility and accountability?!?!??

bro... you're peddling crazy in this day and age. They're going to put you in a straight jacket.

Even worse they toke the ruler away from the teachers. It doesthe take kids long to figure out the old teacher can't touch them either.

While most everyone condemns bullying, many fail to recognize it in their day to day actions. The last few years have shown us examples at all levels of society. The USA bullies it's allies (watch Joe bully Ukraine on YT), The FDA and CDC "mandate" behavior, The Media calls anything they disagree with "a conspiracy" that has been "debunked", and it is ok for young people to beat MAGA hat wearing oldies with their skateboard. Or burn a Federal Bldg. No wonder youth in schools use bullying as a weapon. They see it everyday from adults. Even on this forum, many don't want to hear both sides of an argument, preferring to attack or label the writer that disagrees with them. I'm not a social scientist, have no simple solution. So sad to hear of this school shooting. Unlikely to be the last one..............FWB

Well, Sun. Dec. 15th on Fox channel "Life, Liberty & Levin" show Levin had a rant on last minute stash the cash government spending to sabotage Trump and fund leftist projects. $10 billion Iran sanction WAIVER, 37 billion on clean energy program funding/grants, Dec. 12 authorizations of 735 million for development of "clean energy heavy duty vehicles", 335 million on forest conservation (through the USDA?!)
This in addition to an earlier AH posted video of an EPA employee saying they were "throwing gold bricks off the deck of the Titanic" as an "insurance policy against Trump." Said employee stated that he had gotten rid of 2 billion, mostly to NGOs which couldn't be clawed back as easily as governmental agency dollars, and had 8 billion to go before inauguration. WTH!

How can this corruption be stopped? And don't even get me started on selling off the border wall materials!

The rats are trying to make all that money disappear before DOGE is unleashed on them.
It just proves how despicable the Democrats and many Fed employees are.

I sincerely hope many will be shown the unemployment line

My 8th grade teacher had an 18" ruler in her desk. If someone acted up, out came that ruler. The next thing you heard was a solid whack up side someone's head, no questions asked. She'd patrol that room with that ruler in her hand and did not hesitate to use it. One application was all it took.
My high school teacher was a former boxer and his brand of discipline was a trip down to the furnace room. The gloves came out and he spared no one. One time only.
I did not get in trouble because in a small town everyone knew what was going on almost instantly. I knew that my folks would know before I got home from school and I definitely did not want to face my Dad. Belts and switches did not tickle bare legs.
My kids were raised on the 1,2,3 rule. 1 got a warning. 2 got a swat. 3 got a good paddling. One application was enough.
The good old days when there was discipline.

Ritalin is a controlled substance that must be prescribed by a doctor with a DEA approved license; it cannot be prescribed by school nurses. The only time a school nurse would have contact with a controlled substance would be to insure the child is taking their medication as directed by the doctor who prescribed it.
OK ,thanks for the correction, (insert DEA approved DR., in place of school nurse)

I had software on my kids' computers that would duplicate their desktop and I could look at what they were doing and the messages they were sending to friends from my computer in real time. Never had to give any warnings etc..

My grandkids 6,7,8,9 are restricted. I don't think my kids even allow social media presence. My granddaughters have a private Instagram feed that is populated with their activities etc., by their parents so relatives can know what they are doing.

I remember my Dad taking a Razor Strap to my Ass after I burned the Padded Dash of his 51 Kaiser with a Ciggerate Lighter

My dad had one that looked like this. One evening he hit me hard enough it split down the middle, and I remember feeling joy as I cried myself to sleep that the paddle had met its end.

The next day, it was hanging in its spot, a bead of hot melt glue having made it whole again.

People tell me "Oh, that's awful he abused you like that!" I was not abused; I was disciplined. My dad had his faults; his use of corporal punishment was not one of them.
