China is not seen as the big bad wolf here.

That naivete will come bite you all in the ass...

You seem consumed by this delusion that the USA is fully dependent on Canada for certain commodities... We are not... We buy Canadian energy because in some circumstances, it's cheaper to import it from an overland source rather than a transoceanic ship or a distant refinery...

Our re-establishing USA energy independence will change the paradigm globally... Your oil will be in less demand from the USA, not more... It would be wise to consider these realities before threatening the USA with a potential growing partnership with China...

It is definitely unfortunate that we are squabbling with our long time friends to the north.
Hopefully this is resolved soon. The 51st state joke is offensive and should stop.

The US needs Canada’s products and we want Canadian products. Wood, crude oil etc.

The unfortunate reality is that Canada has some high tariffs on our products. But worse. The Canadian government is allowing China and others to skirt our tariffs on them by dropping it in Canada first then sending over our border.

Your Prime Minister is allowing our foe to bypass our peaceful means of trade enforcement.

Also the illegal border crossings with fentanyl.

Canadian defense spending is Very low. Canada seems to prefer to spend tax money on very liberal government programs. Which is your nations right to do.

The US is broke. We can no longer pay for defending the entire planet. Canada thinks they are free because everyone likes them. Canada is free because of who your neighbor to the south is.

Canada cozying up with the crocodile (China) hoping it eats them last. is not a long term relationship.

We need each other. But we also need Canada
to help us, help them.

Stop allowing China to bypass our trade tariffs and stop aiding with drugs and terrorists coming across our border.

But most importantly, let’s not let these greasy politicians ruin our citizens attachment to each other.

Your posts are always fair, well-thought out, and insightful...

I agree with most everything here except your first two paragraphs...

The 51st state joke is just that... A joke... A troll and a power move by Trump to show Trudeau that there is a new sheriff in town... It wasn't meant to be an insult to the citizens of Canada... It was a direct slight to Trudeau's incompetence... They need to get over it... If they are all that soft and sensitive, they are proving Trump's point...

I also do not agree that we need Canada's products.... We do business with Canada... We don't deal out of brotherly love... When there are better deals to be had, we should seek out all options that are best for the USA! Trump got elected to do just that... Good business is a constant negotiation... If Canada does not want to accept that, they have options just as we do... Bringing these emotions into is actually quite laughable...

Your knowledge of NA energy systems needs some tuning up. It would take decades and many billions, if not trillions of dollars to eliminate the consumption of Canadian energy in the US.

As stated earlier, let’s pray for a positive outcome in Canada’s next elections, and perhaps just a bit more decorum out of our president.

Let’s just say the US hypersonic capability, both offensive and defensive is significantly superior to anything the Russians or Chinese have developed…

Similar to “fifth generation fighters”…yeah… the Russians and Chinese have them..

But nothing they have holds a candle to a Raptor or a Lightning II…

They know it… and we know it…

Juvenile trolling and constant tariff threats drive us farther from it every day. If trump doesn’t like the trade balance he should renegotiate it in 2026 the expiration date he agreed to in the trade agreement he agreed to.

Your arrogance is not a surprise...

We wouldn't need to eliminate imported Canadian energy.... Just the speculation of the potential future of US energy independence drops prices... In fact, it already has in many instances...

You want to debate this topic? Bring it... I will be glad to tune up your knowledge of how energy markets actually work...

On the news feed this morning they said that the Mexican government has given the US permission to send a special forces group to Mexico to train their naval infantry units. Sounds like a positive development.
This may have happened before, just haven’t heard about it.

You do realize the man you are insulting spent his working career in the industry you are arguing about in both countries mentioned right?

The man "I" am insulting?? LOL...

With that background, one would think he would have a better grasp of basic global economics particularly in regard to crude pricing.

Let’s not forget how insulted Trudeau and many Canadians got (to include a few that frequent AH) in 2018 when Trump said Canada presented a “National Security Threat” to the US…

Or how insulted/pissed Trump and his administration got in 2019 when it came out that Trudeau was talking about Trump behind his back like school kids with other world leaders at Buckingham Palace when they were gathered for an event..

These things tend to get overblown by the media… and people get their knickers twisted over what typically amounts to a great big bag of nothing…

Trudeau has already admitted that he understood Trumps51st state comment was a veiled threat/joke, and that what Trump wants is sealed border…

But now, because it’s politically advantageous to him and his party, as recently as last week Trudeau is telling Canadians that Trumps “threat” to make Canada another US state is “real”…

More media and politics gamesmanship…

And at the end of the day yet another big bag of nothing is really all we are dealing with..

Thanks but honestly it’s not worth the effort. He obviously knows much more than me about it.

Agreed, but it is also such a totally unnecessary bag of nothing.

Good God man, the 51st state??? Do you not understand how offensive that is?

Grow a thick skin. We don’t want Canada as a State. You have some of the same crappy people ruining your country as we have over here. Down here we call it California and New York, up there you call it Toronto and Vancouver.

When Trump says 51st State it’s the ultimate insult to your current unelected leader. His inference is that he should be a governor. That’s the insult.

If this were a playground, I would agree. Some people find Trump's behavior humorous - others ridiculous. For the moment, things had become so unacceptable under democrat control in this country, that the majority, though hardly an overwhelming one, decided to put up with the ridiculous to get meaningful change. However, whenever Trump does this sort of silliness, he erodes that political capital just a bit. Meeting Russia's demands over Ukraine would be another and larger erosion. Voters are fickle in a sharply divided electorate. Sure, as we see here, his loyal supporters don't care, most revel in it. But that wedge in the middle that won him the election and the popular vote aren't part of the van club. He and the party need to retain them at least through 26. It should be fairly easy. Why make it harder?

I know very little about hockey, but I have a good hockey story.

Some years ago I was working an election in Ohio and I was staying a hotel downtown near Nationwide Area. Some night I come back to the hotel and head down to the bar area, there were a bunch of guys in there drinking and pretty rowdy, so clearly I can't stay away. They had the carts from the dining room used to clear tables filled with ice and I think Molson beer. I had heard of Molson but really never saw someone drink one, so then they offered I said yes, but then asked why in the hell are they drinking Molson. They laugh and say they are the Senators, I still had no idea what the hell they were talking about, because I know a shit ton of Senators and didn't know any of them, then they had to explain it again, they were a hockey team from Ottawa. They loved that I had zero clue, I had no idea Columbus even had a team and I couldn't name a single person to ever even play for the Senators.

We drank a shit ton of beer and then went out doing what you would expect, great fun.

When I was in college we got ahold of a case of Molson in longnecks. I think it was the first bottled beer in quantity, and certainly the first import I had private access to, and it felt very fancy. I remember it was a 28 pack, the only time I’ve seen any beer in 4x7 packaging. The best we could figure was that was some sort of metric calculation. As an older man I’ve never come across a 28 pack since, including during trips to Canada.

I think my first encounter with import was a case or three of Labats Blue, at the time I thought it was a step up.

C'mon man...

But it is a playground of sorts... This site is for entertainment, and not to be taken seriously... I hate to break it to you, but we are not solving the world's problems with these discussions...

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary
