I am sure Brent from AZ is an alright guy. As with Brent and many americans have their eyes shut towards the many domnistic problems america have. But on the other hand Brent is right. We should poke our own cattle.
I sincrely hope Trump will do it better to be an american in America. I have expressed Trump do have some valid points. However many americans struggle. Nasdaq reported some 530000 filed bankrupcy due to medical bills and why should I care?. I only care if Trump feel america is sidetracked and blaming us!. The american healtcare business are greedy. Start adressing this to start with. The american society doesn`t work for many and they are left out.

I’ve addressed this before in a previous post. Dairy is only tariffed after a certain quota is met.

Canadian dairy farmers are on a quota system. 1kg of milk quota currently costs 24000$ here in Canada which is enough to milk one cow per day. The quota is in place to both keep the price high enough to provide the farmer with a decent price for his milk while also keeping the price low enough for the consumer to buy. There is no way that Canadian dairy farmers could compete with their American counterparts on the open market. American dairy farmers can expand at will. Where as Canadian for every cow requires a 24000 dollar expenditure plus the price of the cow. And that is if there is quota available at all for forsale through the dairy board.

Yes, I am aware. I don't think any state should be involved in the sale of alcohol. I'd go as far as saying ATF should be a convenience store, and not a government agency, but that's not the point.

For example, in the States that control sales, a shelf full of Bud Light while all the other shelves were empty carried a much stronger message than not carrying the product at all. The State not choosing to provide sends a much different (and stronger) message than customers choosing not to purchase.

the message being sent is defiance at the federal and provincial level against a foreign power. The idea being for sales to be hurt enough to have the governors of effected states Kentucky for example to complain to trump. This is not a case of the consumer showing their displeasure with their purchasing power it’s a battle at the state/provincial and federal level.

Here’s another fun fact for you by capita the use runs a major trade deficit with Canada. A country with 40million people comes within 60billion of spending with a country with 300million more people.

Canada is still the second largest export destination for US dairy, more than a billion worth in 2024.

A significant portion of US dairy wouldn't even be eligible for sale in Canada, as there are different rules on everything from anti biotics to additives, to labeling. Most US 'ice cream' couldn't (and isn't, where it is brought in, unless it is higher end) be called that in Canada. Ice cream needs to be made from cream here, which is why you see US brands frequently listed as "frozen dessert", it is primarily vegetable oil.

I never much cared for federal meat inspectors that raised a bunny once in 4h and took a business degree ag collage or lumber inspectors telling me 3 1/2 x 1 1/2 is better lumber than I can mill myself at 2x4 because it’s got a stamp on it. But the world is what it is.

What do I know about lumber I’m only typing this reply sitting on the butt of a log watching a brush pile burn.

Wouldn't surprise me. A lot of hacking comes out of eastern Europe. It was so bad for a number of years, we geo-blocked any IP coming from that region at our firewalls.

What is the 24,000 per head number? I have zero dairy experience, but plenty with cattle, I but can't figure out what you are talking about. I would guess 200 head is an average size, so that there is some added cost of 4,800,000, for what?
