Show me your Possibles Pouch…..yeah it’s a weird topic, and yeah I know about Els and Murray leather (both of whom do outstanding work) but I’ve decided to make my own suite of leather hunting gear…..2” hunting belt, rifle sling, ammo slide, possibles pouch, knife, flask(for celebration only of course)….etc.

The truth is, I’ll likely never even use it. I don’t love a bunch of stuff on my belt but do you like the idea of maybe something just large enough to carry some Chapstick and Band-Aids and my phone, those type of things.

I’ve Looked on the net quite a bit and haven’t seen “the one” so….let’s see what you’ve got.

That is a pretty general discription of a multitude of belt pouchs.

I have made several possible bags and each one is designed specifically for the weapon and accessories for that weapon. The same with various types of belt pouchs I have also made. And the leathers used to make them.

Are you wanting to make a belt pouch out of a thick leather like a (American) Civil War cartridge pouch, or a softer/thinner leather Colonial America French or English style longhunter pouch, or a gentlemans money purse, or perhaps a mideval belt bag/purse in a Scotchish, Irish, Germanic, English, French, etc style.

Then do you want to have a single or multi "pocket" to keep your items seperate for ease to get to?

Do you want your phone upright or length wise in the pouch?

Do you want your pouch to "belt loop" onto your belt or a flap that slides/fits between your belt/pants and body?

Do you want a flap yhat naturally lays over or has a closure ie. snaps, buckles, "button/hook/toggle and loop", or velcro?

Perhaps a bifold belt pouch much like a bifold cartridge carrier/pouch? The two lager cartridge pouches have a divide in them so other items like my Id's, paper money, hunting licenses are handy. Remove the ammo and a cell phone can be placed inside.

well….to answer your question….I'm not sure, hence the reason for asking to see what others are using. It will be made from veg tan tooling leather like everything else I make.

I made this about 25 years ago out of an impala hide. Back when I was pretty heavy into muzzleloading.

I use the pockets in my blue jeans.
Works well but he just wants another accessory because, just because.

@CBeck
I like gear, all I can suggest is keep it small and light. I set up a hunting belt when I was working in the bush and having short hunts or non productive walks with a rifle most afternoons. Sometimes I shot a pig.

Anyway. There is a thread something like "Show us your hunting belt"
Some carried an ammo slide, torch knife, multi tool etc. Maybe a possibles pouch.

For me I threw the belt on loose for quick walks up the creek.

Some fellas in Australia have a tobacco pouch on their belt. Those that roll their own had them to fit a 50gm pouch. With price increases I think they are getting smaller too.

I understand your curiousity and trying to get an idea of some sort of design.

I have a variety of belt pouches each designed for a specific purchase. i.e. the photo of just some of my pouches. I have pouches to wear as an American 1730's long hunter F&I reenactments to 1775 store clerk period. I also have pouches specifically designed for hunting that conveinantly contain cap and ball or flintlock accessories for my 50 cal Hawkens rifle, 45 cal colonial pistol, 44 cal cap and ball revolver, 60 cal flintlock fowler, 50 cal flintlock Pennsylvania rifle, and 10 gauge cap shotgun to use rather than carrying the respective possible bag.

The pouches are made from a variety of soft and thin to heavier and thicker leathers:
elk, deer, cow, and buffalo. Using chrome and vegetible tanned, hair on and off hides.

I am working up ideas to use some of my African PG hides for soft gun cases, hunting or casual wear vests, and multi use cartridge cases like in the photo.

Have you checked out some of the black powder shops that sell pouches?

Antique brass? The aged look is what I mean.
Has @Von Gruff seen the thread, he does his own leatherwork for sheaths and might suggest something.

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
