Preferred bullets for RSA Plains Game

+1 for NorthFork. But the ones on your list should work more than adequately. A-frames may be hard to find, but Barnes seem to be easier to locate.

I’ve killed everything on your list with Remington Core-Lokt bullets and an 06.
However…
Nosler PT, Swift A-Frame, Swift Scirocco II, Barnes TTSX and Federal TBBC are all better choices.
Shoot the one that’s most accurate in the chosen rifle.
The old 30-06 recipe of a 165gr NPT, on top of 56-58gr of IMR 4350 is outstanding for PG.

I would definitely leave either the 375 or 300 behind. Take the one you shoot the best. I’ve killed 10 Eland with all guns you’ve listed. 200 grains out of a .300 cal of any make or model is hard to beat for plains game!!! Most of my game has been Nosler Partions, but all bullets listed here will work. Like someone said, “ a small whole in the heart is better than any whole anywhere else”.

Does that include Giraffes and Eland?
haven't tried them on those yet, but I think the owners of Hammers Bullets have but not sure. I know I will be using them again next April along with their 404 gr 458 bullet for Cape Buffalo again

I am a fan of Norma oryx, I shoot them in both .270win & .308win , they got oryox in 180gr in both 30-06 & .300wm + 200gr 300wm
The barns tsx & ttsx are beastly on game also
I have given up on Swift products because of bad production and management

Been some controversy about this on here but I prefer Barnes TTSX. I shoot 300wm and the 180gr killed everything I shot there, very quickly.

A frames and Barnes are two of my "go too" rounds but not all my rifles like them. Any quality bullet will work for the animals listed. Buy and 1/2 dozen different 180 grains each for the '06 and the .300, find what your rifle likes and use the rest for practice. Same for the .375.

The barnes you mentioned are great. As some have said, it seems some rifles are more picky when it comes to them.

Federal Terminal Ascent is another good bonded bullet to try. I have taken Duiker to Eland with them with great success.

I would leave the 375 home unless you are just dying to tie a story to it. Otherwise your 300WM will do fine on everything you have listed.

Have fun and good luck!

I used the 165 grain Trophy Bonded Tipped on 4 animals with perfect results in my 308.

I used a swift A frame on Zebra, kudu and Cape Buffalo.

Five of these seven were one shot kills

I shot a second round into two animals but they had stopped moving and it was just insurance as they say.

The trophy bonded bullets are as good as anything made in my experience.

A good friend used them on leopard and a pair of buffalo bulls. Perfect performance on the “ soft cat” as well as much larger(hard target)buffalo.

Feel like such a novice commenting on these posts. But I will anyways, and its an echo of others. TSX worked great for me. I was working on a sirocco load but didn't get it dialed in enough to take. The federal 165 gr TSX factory load just shot so well out of my m70 30-06.

My friend, Jerry Noblin used 131 grain Hammer bullets out of his 275 Rigby to take a bunch of plains animals.

Said they killed quickly and penetrated like much heavier lead core bullets. He’s a big fan of them now.

I used 168 gr TTSX in my 30-06 for my first two hunts of PG in Namibia with zero regrets. Everything from springbok up to kudu and zebra, one shot kills, a few steps and dropped. That said, from what you mentioned I'd use any and all of them for PG without a doubt. Which shoots best in each rifle? Go with that one.

Barnes TTSX and TSX, exclusively

It depends. Many places are going lead free in the EU and UK. If you plan on hunting these areas, it should be a consideration. Also what does your rifle like? You have some good choices but my preference is for the SAF and Barnes TTSX/TSX.

My wife had a Savage Lady Hunter in 270WIN that loved the 150 grain SAF’s. Now she’s using a 300WM and the 165 Barnes TTSX is king.

I’ve had two different 375H&H. One liked the 300 grain SAF’s, the other 300 grain Barnes TSX.

FYI - You will be fine for everything with just your 375H&H or 300WM, no need for both. If it were me, I’d opt for the 375 to keep the possibility of DG on the menu. You never know what might come along.

As @375Fox stated earlier - the lighter for caliber bullets in Barnes TTSX have been more accurate in the .30 calibers. 150 and 165 grains will certainly do the job in a 30-06 or 300WM.

I don’t know what people see in Barnes bullets. They have a propensity to do crazy things sometimes on animals and the copper fowling is intolerable. Some people state accuracy is good, but that’s not been my experience.!
I’ve shot everything you have listed in Africa and then some with a frames. I never had an issue availability has been a bit of a problem, but that’s being resolved now and production quality has been good. 200 grain A-frames out of the 300 WM are hammers on everything
I’ve used exclusively A-frames out of 300WM, 375, 416 Rigby and 450-400 & 470NE doubles
With excellent results. North Froks would be my second choice. And just about any premium bullet before I would use Barnes on anything. I know that goes against what many will tell you!

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
