Proper Gin and Tonic

If you’re buying or pouring I’ll take what you put in front of me. I used to drink GTs a lot. Tanqueray 2 or 3 to 1 to the tonic on the rocks with a slice of lime.

I found they went down too easily. So extra dry martini using Bombay is my replacement.

Muddle three mint leaves in a lowball glass. Add 3 oz of Beefeater (or Hendricks) gin. Add ice and stir. Squeeze a lime wedge and drop it in. Stir again. Top up with Fever Free tonic water.

Extremely refreshing with the hint of mint.

Note - I also substitute lemon for the lime when I’m in the mood.

EDIT - It’s 8:30 am and now my mouth is watering for a G&T.

...Sundowners around the mopani fire at night after a hard day of hunting in Africa.
Gin...whatever the safari operator has on hand, tonic same. Ice, lime/lemon if available.

Best G&T's I ever drank.

2/3rd Tonic, Fever Tree preferred, but other premium tonics will work.
1/3rd Gin
Slice of green lime optional
Ice cubes

Gins:
- Hendrick's
- Nordés (one of the best I've tried, do not add anything but basic tonic)
- Monkey 47
- The Botanist

Serving suggestion: never make a G&T alone, this is something to be shared. By preference with your feet up, enjoying a nice sun set.

Plymouth with bitters.

If it has to be with tonic, as long as it isn’t bottom shelf, the lime is more important than the particular brand in my opinion.

Last year when I was in Mumbai the bar at the Taj Mahal Palace served Sepoy Indian Tonic Water. So far unable to locate in the USA.

The closest thing you'll fine in Texas is Fever Tree and you can find it at Spec's.

Hendricks Gin
Ice
Fever tree tonic
Fresh LEMON wedge

Bombay Extra Dry (White Label) Gin
Copper Craft Gin -Holland Michigan
Fever Tree Tonic
Lime Wedge

Ratio depends on the day

Gin makes my joints hurt like it takes all the lube out! and so I'm a Bourbon drinker.
In Africa usually means bring my own or drink what ever scotch or Irish they have!
Some of the local beers cold work too and most of the pre-covid dry red wines from
Africa are frankly very good, so a single sundowner and maybe a glass of wine for dinner
and I'm set.
Good news is for the gin drinkers around the fire they just have more to drink!

I’m hesitant to try this because for the last half hour the politics forum is cordial with discussions about a proper Gin and Tonic.

I know this has been explored, but share your G&T. It can be a commentary on ratios, citrus, brand of gin, garnish, etc.
I’m a Beefeater g&t guy.

I make my own tonic syrup. It’s a game changer. I can control the sweetness, the bitterness and the flavor profile. Google Morgenthaler Tonic Syrup for a starter recipe. I. Use TopoChico for bubbles.

If you in Denver (God forbid), there is a super Gin bar in Union Station. Stop there if you use the train to get to the airport.

Campari and Bombay Sapphire/Tanqueray Rangpur plus a splash of tonic might just be the most refreshing adult libation on earth.

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
To much to political shit, to little Africa :-)
