Does anyone have any experience with a rifle from Reimer Johannsen? I know they make great CRF rifles but there is not alot of info online about them. I'd like to hear peoples thoughts that has experience with rifles from this maker compared to others such as Rigby, Hartmann & Weis, Heym etc. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

They have a very good reputation in Europe, I guess you have allready seen it, but if not Roger Rule has a clip on Youtube where he talks alot about the company and the quality of their rifles.

Reimer Johannsen belongs to the upper class when it comes to building custom hunting rifles. More comparable to Hartmann & Weiss than to Rigby or Heym, which primarily produces serial or semi-custom rifles. Prices are also not comparable. A friend of mine own such a rifle caliber 416 Rigby built by Johannsen.

Reimer Johansson, Theo Jung, Hartman & Weiss, always been kind of shrouded in mystery. Probably a level of luxury most won’t experience in life. Seen some of all their work, elite level rifle building from artisans that clearly are gifted with rare skills

This company has a good reputation. I have never owned a weapon built by them, but I had something done on one of my rifles. The workmanship was horrible, I had the rifle fixed somewhere else.

Reimer Johannsen is not shrouded in mystery; he owns a gun shop and sells a lot of items, among other things components for reloading cartridges. I often buy from him online.

I had no idea, they appear to be a full service gun shop and retailer......interesting. Had never been on their site before,......thanks for the info

I think only to us in the U.S., not our European brethren. I was very late to the game in discovering about Reimer Johannsen, Theo Jung and Hartmann & Weiss. Thanks to Roger Rule’s videos I’ve been able to better educate myself about these wonderful German rifles, considered to be some of the best DG bolt action rifles made.

They I believe make actions that are used by many custom builders. Excellent quality, very high prices. For the price, I would certainly by an investment grade rifle of identical quality because a RJ isn't going to hold up value-wise. They are on-par with rigby, maybe better than a heym, and vastly inferior to a Hartmann.

here is my Johannsen action. I wanted to have an old school 416 Rigby built and his with the military trigger, thumb cut and flag safety , was perfect. It has the same dimensions as Mauser 98 and hence a tab bit trimer than a GMA express action.

Inferior how?

Hartmann and Weiss make rifles for Presidents of nations and Russian oligarchs.

Johannsen is a nice rifle. I have handled them and they are superb. If I was a PH, and could afford one I'd own a Joh in 458 Lott or 500 Jefferies.

Re-read my post and then yours. Your wires are crossed. H&W is the finest bolt rifle in the world.

Ok but why? Why is it the best?

I was referring to you saying the H&W was vastly better than the Johannsen.

Either way neither is a market I am currently in. I might bring a factory magnum Mauser home with me from Germany.

Doubtful it will be a Johoannsen.

H&W has made guns for royalty and their abilities are limitless. I've seen half million dollar H&Ws. Pedestrian grade H&Ws exude $50k and up quality at every detail. RJ rifles use the highest quality components and are comparable to all the other very nice boutique builders from Ramirez to Martini. Just not in the same stratosphere. Heck, H&H magazine rifles aren't in the HW arena either.

All statements are generalizations, there's always an exception.

Prechtl would also be an option. Somewhat comparable to Johannsen in terms of rifle quality. I am also sometime client by him.

These are all gunsmiths who have experience with rifles for big game hunting in Africa. Anyone who wants to have for example a rifle caliber 500 Jeffery built, will be well served by them.

With the quotes I have now received there is quite a big price difference between Reimer Johannsen and Hartmann & Weis so this is to be expected. Reimer Johannsen fits between Heym and H&W price wise, I'm talking mostly starting base prices, obviously upgrades vary quite a bit between makers.
Build times are about the same for both Reimer Johannsen and H&W again mostly speaking to base model rifles, upgrades can change this quite significantly.

VO Vapen for the gun lovers is also next level. Lots of guns for sheikhs etc
RJ has a stand at Jagd und Hund every year I visited the show on Dortmund.

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
