Report Scam in AH Classifieds

He lives in Ackworth GA. I have an address, etc.
I need some help to recover $1800. I have the guys address that I mailed a check to. This site has proven to be a scammers paradise. Acworth GA. Screen name is Lazy

I Googled Acworth, GA and it's in Cobb County. Since you have the guy's name and address, you might look him up on the Tax Assessors website and then report him to the County Sheriff's office.

Cobb County, GA Tax Assessor:

BTW, your comment about this site, AH, being proven to be a scammers paradise is false. You failed to do your due diligence and lost. It's unfortunate and a painful lesson.

I Totally agree. I’ve done many transactions with AH members without a hitch. Take the recommended precautions and you will be fine.

Like others, I am very sorry the OP was
Taken.

I got scammed a while back, and the dirt bag used an address of someone not related to him. This scumbag even called a gun store to get a quote to ship the rifle. There were a couple of members here who tried to help out, but these scammers probably lived outside the country. We got nowhere. In your case, since you have an address, I would contact the local Sherriff and see if they could help out. Good luck!

Might try putting a stop payment on the check through your bank.

As others have pointed out, this site actually has few successful scammers. Unfortunately, no site is immune. Good luck on nailing the bastard. Sorry you suffered a loss.

Thank you to the AH member who reported a scammer operating in the PM system, @Longdrive has been banned.

I am currently dealing with a member listed as Pamela who is selling me .375 H&H Flanged ammo. However, based on pictures and answers I am getting it shows all the symptoms of a scam.
Definitely a scammer, thank you for reporting @Pamela ebay who has been banned.

@SAFARIKIDD I believe so. Kelly543 has a Holland & Holland 450 No 2 he will sell me.

A question for those of you out there.

On this site I have been requested to send pictures of specific desirable rifles. I have consented once or twice and never heard anymore from the person. Opinion, are these pictures being used on other sites as "scam ads"?

Please understand I am not blaming the AH forum, just wondering I know I would never want to be associated with a scam.

It might be

Seeing on MeWe forum ,there is several, scam forums there where people get advice in back searching for photos used elsewhere, but they also nick them from, posts and such. Put. Watermarkmonmphotos of guns,it will limit it much from eing re purposed elsehere

I reported what I thought was highly likely to be a scam on AH and as usual, our fearless leaders snuffed it out right away and took care of it. I should have known better, but my actions BROUGHT the scammer to this forum which was bad judgment in hindsight.

The scenario:

1.) My mistake/stupidity, I posted a WTB (want to buy) thread. Never do this. It chums the waters for scammers.

2.) Scammer signs up, specifically to lure me into a conversation. Signed up AFTER I did my WTB post and within 48 hours is contacting me on that topic.

3.) Scammer pollinates many threads with BS posts. “Wow”. ”Amazing”. “Looks great” to build reputation.

4.) Scammer says “I have just what you need, text me at 1-800-SCAM-YOU”. Naturally, the model they say they have just so happens to be an odd model that is the top 20 pictures on Google images, so that’s where they were headed next when I demand “proof of life”.

I’ve tried to buy many things this past year on a number of forums and facebook with “Want to buy” listings. I’ve received dozens upon dozens of replies to various items and they are always, always scammers.

Conclusion: Don’t ever ask to buy something or you will encourage scammers to join a group just to work you as a target. I knew better, but I did it anyway, and it was stupid of me.

Made the same mistake a few months ago- learned as you did, never again!

Be aware guys, the scammers are on GB now too. Had a buddy just win an auction and the guy wanted payment through velle or venmo only and it was going to a different person. Buddy reported it to GB, but know that it is going on there as well.

Everybody wants a deal. A reputable "side liner" or savvy collector might sell a gun expecting 20% profit for their time, wisdom, and selectivity. Reputationally, that person if known to a collector community will not screw over people. The late Cal Pappas is a good example of this type of collector that sold a few guns.

But people get greedy or they are a bit naive by human nature. They want to buy it 20% less than private party norm and they lack the discipline and expertise to judge the gun and the anonymous seller.

Keep in mind, full retail might be $20,0000. Private party from known seller / trusted collector might be $14,000. But people will fall for a scam every time or buy a junk gun only to say they paid $11,200.

The juice is almost never worth the squeeze. I've easily made $20,000 in mistake guns that I had to sell for scrap/parts in my life learning how to collect because I won't push my mistake onto the next collector or shooter. Save yourself expensive tuition like I paid over thirty years time, buy guns from trustworthy private parties. Its the lowest price before the transaction risk skyrockets.

There are perhaps ten sellers I would buy a gun from off GB. Perhaps thirty I would buy from on GI. There are nearly 100 people on AH I would buy a gun from without hesitation.

Caveat emptor!

I have learned a lot from @rookhawk over the last few weeks and only wish I had spoken with him years ago, although I'm betting he is glad I have not been bothering him for so long! :ROFLMAO: Luckily my buddy is an FFL so he caught on pretty quick and it didn't go past the request for payment. Just want to save some people the hard lesson some of us have learned.

Glad you were not taken. (y)
