My homeowners rider policy (USAA) won't cover equipment outside the USA.
I'm looking for some equipment coverage around $10K for a pending trip to S. Africa.
Blaser R8, couple of barrels, glass, and equipment.
Any guidance is very welcome.

I have a Valuable Personal Property (Inland Marine) policy with USAA for a few of my firearms. It’s expensive, but not attached to my homeowners. Fairly sure it’s worldwide coverage. It does have a zero deductible.

I’ve looked at Eastern and Gun & Trophy, both have a large deductible but have not made the change.

I'l second Laura Sewall, Eastern Insurance / Gallagher Insurance for fine firearms.

1.) They are vastly less expensive than the worst option (Homeowners rider at about 2% of value), or an inland marine policy (1% of insured value). Eastern is 0.33% of value)

2.) They'll cover any loss other than theft from an unlocked vehicle.

3.) You do not have to keep your guns in a safe to be insured.

4.) Discount if you're an NRA member.

5.) $250 deductible. You don't need to schedule any weapon worth less than $10,000, thus retaining your privacy unless its a high value firearm.

6.) AJ Gallagher is an insurance behemoth, one of the very best. Also they are friends of the family so I can attest to their ethics as an American firm of high character.

7.) You'd spend more on insurance to ship a single gun via Fedex or UPS than the entire year's premium with Eastern/Gallagher. Fedex and UPS will never pay your claims anyway, they'll just blame you for packing it wrong or state your gun is worth pennies, not thousands.

$330ish per year for $100,000 coverage.

Update:

Contacted Laura. The policy is for firearms, reloading equipment, and stored ammo.
It is head and shoulders better than a personal effects policy from USAA and costs less.

USAA only covers firearms and personal effects while stored your home of record but not during travel or abroad.

Many thanks @rookhawk for the tip. This little uncertainty of my trip is now solved.

Would she insure for a European customer?

I haven’t made a claim yet but use Gun and trophy with excellent pricing.

For years I have used Sportsman's Insurance Agency on my firearms, especially those I travel with outside the US. I've never had a claim. SIA has been very easy to work with on firearm insurance.

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
Ready for the hunt with HTK Safaris

Hello:
I’ll take the .375 Whitworth for $1,150 if the deal falls through.
Thanks .
