An interesting fact is that the double banded sandgrouse drink at sunset while the Namaqua sandgrouse and Burchell's sandgrouse drink in the mornings.Wonderful question. The most spectacular wingshooting I've had on planet earth was the 15 minutes at sunset when the sandgrouse fly into the river bottoms for a quick drink. Absolutely anarchy for 15 minutes and then it's all over. If you can hunt grouse in Africa, pick that date to make it a possibility most evenings. It's more fun than culling plains game.
Guineas and Francs are always a possibility, so are whistling ducks, pigeons/doves, and egyptian geese.
But sandgrouse are the kings! Mold your safari to the operator that can get you into grouse shooting. I shot them I think in June-July-August if memory serves me correctly.
Hello COElkHunterWhat type of shotguns would be available to hunt them with?

That IS an interesting fact that virtually the same species of bird seek water at different times of the day. Very unusual. I have hunted three species of dove (mourning, white wing and non-native Eurasian) here in the US over the years and their behaviors are quite similar. Although, the Eurasians don't tend to favor the same seed crops as the other two. I find the behavior patterns of wildlife, especially birds as they're mobile over great distances, very interesting. Thanks. An interesting fact is that the double banded sandgrouse drink at sunset while the Namaqua sandgrouse and Burchell's sandgrouse drink in the mornings.
The double banded sandgrouse is distributed mostly over the northern parts of Namibia and Botswana and the whole of Zimbabwe while the Namaqua and Burchells are more south in the drier parts.
Sincerely
