Just don't look at the score for SCI on cape buffalo. Just ignore how they score them....you can find a nice cape buffalo hunt around the Krueger Park area. Take a old warrior, with big bosses.

That's why I came home without a buffalo this trip. I had several opportunities but I just couldn't see going that far and spending that kind of money to bring anything else home but an old warrior beyond his prime. Big hard bosses and lots of character meant more to me than just the raw score or how wide he was. I actually turned down a 40-42" bull that looked relatively young and didn't have hard bosses.

I know nothing about those two but I would ask them a few question.
To take 5 to 7 gold medal and 4 of them be of the spiral horns you will need time. I would ask them how long they plan on it taking. Just for those 4 I would say 2 weeks would be pushing it with out some good luck. Then to add sable and buff you need time. If they say faster then that they are taking you to some put and take places to hunt.

What you want can be done with good planning but it normally takes more time to get that quality of animal all gold medal in one trip.Good luck in your search

I agree getting multiple gold takes time they say 14 days for 5 gold and a sable and 8000 for sable over 40 and want 450/day plus trophy fees, since I am a newbie to aftica is that good, bad or avg for what I want? more time to get buff. since 2 weeks is all I got for time buff another trip. since you are pawprints guy PM me if you guys can accomadate such an safari or who do you know that can? I have been around long enough to know that whomever I choose is going to have to have good contacts and access to several properties and done his home work.
Next question I assume I want to go early in season june maybe before they are all picked over?
Define put and take? I was under the impression already that RSA was high fence and working under the assumption that SCI gold animals were high dollar to them and would be somewhat protected and known quantities and I would be expected to pay to play so to speak. I have been told any big sable will be $$$ and probably be stocked/fenced/whatever.
I am good with that have hunted high fence trophy fee deals before the stag in my avatar didnt come cheap!
I would really really not be good with riding around shooting "represenative" animals they can save those for the budget package hunts, no offense to anyone who wants to just plug a bunch on the cheap intended, been there done that too and can be fun!

I am talking the kind of put and take like stocked the week before you get there. Many ranches have sable stocked on them but they have been on that ranch for years and grew to trophy size on that ranch. Must places have kudu and eland the same way breeding herds that have been there for years. I would just say 14 days with the travel you may need to do is cutting it to tight I think. I will talk with pieter and see what we can do for you. It is just hunting the right areas for what you want.
I dont think gold medal stuff is out of the question. Your not asking for world record just gold medal quality which is doable but more time would be better. You may have one animal left to go with the buff when you return. I will pm you pricing by the weekend and day rate also. We have places in the limpo and northwest which will be good areas for what your looking for.

Interesting. And I don't mean this as criticism per se. I just find this dialogue fascinating. I am just not sure that I have actually encountered an approach to hunting quite like this in Africa - Europe yes - but not Africa. But it would seem there are properties there that will accommodate such a set of goals. More power to you and them.

You see, I really would rather spend 14 days hunting quality free-range buffalo, sable, and nyala in say Mozambique where I had a good chance at old bulls with scores north of 38, 28 and 38 than shooting a nearly certain almost guaranteed absolutely almost positively gold medal anything before the herd is picked over by the common folk animal in an artificial setting. And silly me, I am likely paying a lot more for the experience. But then, for me, it is all about the hunt with a trophy as a reminder of that experience. I assure you wading thru the Zambezi Delta or trekking the Tanzanian highlands for an ancient Durga Boy makes for a real campfire or bar story regardless of whether the bull earned a particular medal.

Jason would shoot an animal in 10 acre camp, where no way would Paul even think about hunting like that. Some of Jason's trophies shot not "hunted" have really been questioned if they should be allowed in the record books.

Hunting for gold metal animals in Africa is achievable. Just remember Red Leg's advice, how you hunted for those animals is the memories you care for the rest of your life. There are good properties in RSA, Namibia to hunt.....and certainly large free ranging areas too in other countries. Do your research.

Hunting has many types of hunters and many set goals of taking a trophy that makes them happy. Some like old worn animals others like the best then can find. Then some like trophy class that score a certain way. I dont feel anyone is wrong if it is what makes them happy spending there money and it is legal to take the animal.

AS us hunters have seen over the last few month we are taking a beating on hunting in general. WE as hunters need all hunters to keep hunting be it meat or trophy hunting. See nothing wrong with what he is asking for myself but I also do realize it is not for everyone.

and no I wont shoot a penned canned animal I just want the outfitter/PH to know for certain that I wont take gun off shoulder for anything less than gold so if they want to get paid take me to properties/ranches whatever that have animals of that quality and I will crawl through the worst hell swamp you got to get them just be damn sure they exist on that property! none of the games try to burn me out so I shoot lesser quality, etc come on we all seen the games I will not play! My goal is to make certain they know this ahead of time and I am sure there are good quality guys out there that are willing to go the extra mile and do there home work finding the right properties that hold trophy animals that aren't in a pen and I am willing to follow them through hell. but in the end my success will depend on them setting up the right properties, etc. that will require extra work and cost for them so I expect to pay them in the end they are in business to make money and I have no problem with that, you are naïve if you think they aren't there to make money

I think you need to figure 3 to 4 days per animal. So in 14 days 4 animals tops. I will look forward to the hunt report when you go!

Your doing the right thing by asking for what you want right up front. Most ranches will have some gold medal animals on them but when only after that class of animal there is areas that will give you better odds. Hunting a ranch that has 1 gold class kudu on it is not what your looking for. So special areas and places are needed to give you a fair chance at what you want but still give you a great hunt and not just a shoot.

that's awesome thank you. you seem to understand exactly what I am asking for and how it needs to be done for best chance.
and if I don't tell outfitter up front then expect that class of animals that would be unrealistic to expect him to fulfill. as you say I might be lucky to get one and go home pissed off. I would rather go home happy come back yr later get buff and any I didn't get first time!

AND any other of you guys that are in the PH or outfitting business in RSA that would be able to acommadate my request please PM me I am not just locked into RSA either really don't care what country if that makes a difference.

That's fair enough. And my reply reads way too snarky. Though not sure where I implied these guys aren't running businesses for profit, but let's chalk that up to the limitations of a key board. Would much rather continue this discussion over a single malt! I do seriously wish you the best of luck. You and I simply have different approaches to this sport which I am sure we both love. There are those of us on this forum who will readily pay two and three times the daily rates you're talking with no guarantee of a kill at all. That isn't nativity, but rather a different set of priorities or product for which we are willing to invest. It was unfair of me to imply that yours were somehow wrong. They obviously are not. Buck you're doing fine, we're just trying to help you understand that hunting varies greatly all over South Africa and even more across the other countries.

A guy needs to make it clear what his needs, wants, desires, and expectations are or we're almost sure to really miss the mark when offering suggestions.

One thing I can tell you for sure is that for the type of hunting you are talking about you are going to have to be really fit, and I don't must mean not fat, but really fit because you're going to be having to put probably five to 15 miles a day on your feet every day of your hunt to accomplish your goal and on top of that you're probably going to have to move from one location to another at least 3-5 times which may entail some long drives and/or some several hours long flights in small aircraft.

I heard again and again from the PH's and outfitters I met and/or hunted with is that Americans in general tend to not be physically ready for the rigors of their brand of spot and stalk hunts. It's not just "creep and stalk" like is common here, there will be a lot of times you are hoofing it hard trying to parallel or get ahead of and cut off moving animals to set up an ambush shot and that requires a great deal of fast walking or even jogging for a half a mile to several miles at a time without a break.

You would not want to get your hopes up and shell out the money a hunt like this is going to cost you and not be in shape to take full advantage of the opportunities.

on what to expect because I have no idea. I expecedt lots of moving from property to property and lots of driving and am not expecting 5 star luxury every day.
I am not rookie I am a 55 year old sheep and mtn hunter so if my 55 year old butt can still climb mtn bet I can go on flat ground. would never think of going on a hunt and not be in shape ready to lock and rock that means me, my gear,my gun and shooting, so worry not about me. serious sheep hunters don't miss very often if you are busting your ass up a mtn for a 1 shot chance once in a lifetime you don't miss! ask a sheep guide they don't see many misses. ask a African guide I think they see lots. I just got back from NZ and number one topic after they saw I could walk talk and shoot was how lousy shots and out of shape many were. have heard that lots. sorry to say that but I still love ya all some just need to practice more and train some for a hunt and better outcomes will result.
you guys on here seem to be all like minded to me, I just might go about arranging a hunt a little diff than some with diff expectations than some.
