Shipping the Big 5!!!

I actually have a hippo in JHB waiting to fly to Germany with Turkish Airlines.

I have just been advised by my transport company that due to the quake in Turkiye, there will not be any cargo space available at least until March 6.

Whichever taxidermist you choose over there to prep your shipment can hook you up with the logistics outfit that will handle the shipping. In these times estimates might not be that accurate. I got an estimate during my planning process and it ended up being 2 1/2 times that due to the outrageous and sudden increase in fuel prices. If you have one of the big five then the whole shipment goes that way. Turkish handled mine.
Had the EXACT same thing happen to me...

If these carriers continue to refuse to ship trophies it may be an opportunity for someone to step up and start a business doing shipments. Imagine the amount of business if all your competition bows out and you’re the sole provider. It may also be a necessary move to support the future of the Safari business.
Imagine the potential of a company shipping and clearing trophies for their clients and how much smoother it could be.
That would be awesome! I'm an Aircraft Mechanic and maintenance especially on LARGE aircraft is very expensive.. But if the business was there, I'd be all over it!

I just got back a crate—- buff skull and tanned hide, kudu skull and horns; wives impala skull and horns. Promised in 5-7 months but it took 18 months and 10 days. 73 kilos and 4250 out of pocket——-splitting image; badger cargo; Turkish air through Istanbul to Chicago, coppersmiths to my door. Guess I would not recommend any of them and shipping costs are out of control[emoji30]. Cheers

I received my shipment with two cape buff, eland, and a few other things. Large crates(2) large expense with mounted with pedestals—paper work was slow clearing items in South Africa, when they cleared paper work, they shipped within 10 days on Turkish air thru Istanbul and then to atl Coppersmith cleared in 8 full days and we took delivery on Friday. Less than ten days total in ATL and in just more than 2 weeks from clearance of paper work to arrival in my home. Again, shipping was stupid—I paid more for the shipping than the taxidermy …I choose not to disclose the shipping cost. Turkish air added two days of storage, and total with coppersmith and all fees associated with shipping was $1000. I think I wrote earlier that Ethiopian air shipped unfinished leopard, zebra, dik dik and springbok for $1000 to Chicago and cleared by flora and fauna and delivered to Kanati for approx 800$. Yellow shark was shipper in Namibia.
I would have saved a large chunk of cash by not mounting and saved a lot if I mounted here. But I am please with the taxidermy. .

I just got a quote from Badger Cargo 2 days ago for a Sable pedestal mount (no pedestal) and an Kudu shoulder mount along with a buff euro, cost was 2134.00 on Delta and 2030.00 on Turkish both to Chicago, IL did not check Qatar

Has anyone shipped trophies by sea freight? This may be a viable option.

I’m seriously considering going this route, I had a buddy ship his personal stuff & a boat , home by ship after his contract was over from job
since there will be 3 people I would think we would be able to cargo it home cheaper

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.

Hello:
I’ll take the .375 Whitworth for $1,150 if the deal falls through.
Thanks .
