I shoot my 500 NE on a regular basis. First let me say it weights 11.5 LBS. That helps. Second, most all the shooting I do is with light/minimal powder charges since I reload all my own ammo. With that said, it is actually fun to shoot! However working up hunting loads was a bit challenging. Now that I have the loads I want (for hunting), I will not shoot full charges other than at game and or to validate my sights are OK after flying. When I was firing on buffalo in Sept., it handled like a 22LR. ;-)@grand veneur
My experience with that round is a grand total of three shots. That's enough for me for one lifetime. I even had my big boy pants on. Didn't make any difference to the recoil.

We’ll have to consult with @Bob Nelson 35Whelen to know if the 338 is a DG cartridge. Not sure if this lil boy is considered for DG,,,,but i consider my wife DG !!! so there you go

10.75x68 Mauser
404 Jeffery
458 Win Mag
458 Lott
505 Gibbs
500 Jeffery
And yes, maybe a tad bit of repetition and overlap going on here, lol!
I'd say it's like picking between children - I love them both equally, lol! That said, the Jeffery is lot prettier!Excellent collection though.
Which do you prefer between the Gibbs and Jeffery?
@BJH65Haha…well actually a variety of CZ, Brno, Winchester M70 and Rem 700 chambered in two 375 H&H, two 416 Rigby, one 416 Rem Mag, one 375 RUM and one 458 Lott. I’m a sucker for good deals and I need to stay off the various online gun auctions/internet gun sales!
It wasn’t that long ago all I possessed for a large caliber rifle was a 375 RUM but with a renewed interest in African hunting, large caliber rifles and thanks to this site, I’ve acquired a few more. I should be more like BeeMaa and just have an R8 Blaser with a couple barrels!
@Jack StevensUnless we’re limited to African hunting, some would argue that at least two .35-cal rounds constitute viable DG cartridges since they’ve accounted for a fair share of big bruins and moose in Alaska over the years.
Pictured here, those two would be the .35 Whelen (middle) and the world’s first short magnum, the .350 Remington Mag (right):
