So dumb question about a pelican

It literally reminded me of the old samsonite commercial with the gorilla throwing a suitcase around!

I wonder if denatured alcohol would work to potentially clean off any bonding agent then maybe rough it up with some light grit sandpaper as well?

A couple others have mentioned chemicals to remove the mold release agent-I recommend odorless mineral spirits-but the concept is the same
I am also a lover of stickers.
. .

If you bought an SKS you wouldn't be having this Problem

I’ll get mine done it’s new when I get back from holiday and have a test run with stickers and tape then wipe a few areas and try again. Im sure that it won’t hurt the outside of it.

This may sound too intense, but in the outdoors in an open concrete area, safely go over the case with a hand torch. This will burn off some of the petroleum-based mold releasing agents and smooth out some of the micro flaws in the case giving it a smoother surface area.

Silly me. I like birding and saw the title and clicked on this to see what you wanted to know. Dead serious. I guess I need more coffee.

:X3: :coffee:
Haha - This thread caught my eye several times for the same reason. I have a lot of pelican cases so, after a second or two, I realized what it was about. I finally opened it just to make sure.

Are you putting gun company stickers on your case? I've been told that is an invitation to have baggage "mishandled" purposely by anti-hunting/guns baggage apes. One fella I know put musical instrument sticker on his gun case. Yamaha I think. Not sure how helpful the disguise is if the gun case has to be tagged as a firearm by security at checkin. Why do they do that anyway? Are guns stored in a special place in the plane?

For permanent ID I attached a brass plaque with machine screws and nuts to my Pelican Vault.

I use duct tape to secure the locks against the case. If they get caught on other baggage there's a potential to damage my case or someone else's luggage. But I wrap the tape all the way around the case and onto itself so no problems making it stick. I used red duct tape but a certain security inspector at Joberg airport took a shine to it and simply confiscated the roll right in front of me. Next time I will use the ugly gray stuff and put an extra roll in my checked bag. Note the locks are attached upside down. Easier to get the key into them when I can see the slot. The duct tape goo is easily removed with WD-40 and a paper towel.

I actually had a metal name plate riveted to my last case. I’ve heard the horror stories about the gun stickers as well but my old case was covered with them. Really the worst damage was a bent hasp and a bunch of scrapes from the baggage conveyor.
