@Firebird we discussed birds using the English names but also the Africaans names. Used "Birds of Southern Africa, 4th edition by Ian Sinclair" which offers both.

Cull hunting was an enjoyable effort and gave more opportunities for practicing stalking. Springbuck were the most difficult to get into range due to the wide open grasslands typically found on. Impala and warthog could be as challenging, stalking through shallow creek beds with lots of small trees and bushes. We had a couple times where a shotgun would have been nice to have after walking up on catchment basins and flushing ducks, geese and guinea fowl. Other cool birds to see on the plains were Secretary Birds, Kori Bustards (always flying away) and a variety of raptors such as Rock Kestrels, Pale Chanting Goshawk and even a Gymnogene (African Harrier-Hawk).

very nice report and trip. Thanks for taking the time to get it all down.

Very nice Vallie, they are a special hunt and one of my favorite hunting memories.
Well written report you were able to bring me along your hunt.

Waidmannsheil on a very nice Vhaal Rhebuck @Trogon They are amazing little animals.

Great hunt, great Vhaal Rhebuck! It’s amazing what Eland can take and keep going. My eland travelled a few hundred yards. Same experience with all of the cows milling around. Congrats

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
