Steyr Mannlicher Classic 7x64

Got it to the range today, got it sighted in with S&B factory, and started shooting a handload of 140 gr Sierra Game Kings with Hunter powder.
It was showing good promise but then they were going to call a cease fire which usually takes about 15 minutes by which time I would want to be on my way home, so I left with 5 rounds yet to fire, but it appears it will be a good shooter, and worked fine otherwise.
Hopefully next week I can finish that load up and maybe another as well.

Very nice rifle. Congrats! Thanks for sharing.

The SBS and three-position tang thumbwheel safety are also features on the newer CLII. I had one in .270 Win that I sold last year. It's a very slick system--I particularly liked the third position that allowed the bolt handle to be pressed closer to the stock (nice for transport and storage).

I now own a Steyr SM12 stutzen in 9.3x62. It's one of my favorites. The SM12 does not have the SBS thumbwheel but rather the HCS (handcocking system) on the tang which when pushed allows the firing pin to be fully decocked. One of the other distinctions between the CLII and SM12 is the set trigger in the latter--it's one of the best factory set triggers I've encountered. Incredibly light.

The Mannox coating on the new rifles isn't as aesthetically pleasing as classic bluing, but it's very tough and resistant to corrosion.

I've never used a 7x64 (or even shot one, for that matter), but have always been interested (along with 8x68). I'm a sucker for the euro chamberings.

I bet it will be a good shooter. Are you planning to sell the M72 or keep for a backup?

After I shoot this a couple of times to confirm all is good, I will be selling the M72.

The metrics are a fav here also. Have 6.5x57, 7x57, 7x64, 8x64s, and 9.3x74R.

I just ran a tight patch twist test on this barrel, got 8.5" a couple of times so its right where it belongs.

Always prefer a faster twist, especially in a 7mm.

The 7x64 has always had a fast twist so it’s perfect with the heavy bullets and modern high bc bullets.

It was way ahead of its time. Great cartridge. My friend in South Africa has used his for everything up to and including lion.

Nice rifle, Steyr's that I have shot have all been very accurate. 7x64 is a very nice round!!!

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.

Hello:
I’ll take the .375 Whitworth for $1,150 if the deal falls through.
Thanks .
